Drug use and violence in front of kids. 8 and 9yr old can recognise and describe someone who is overdosing on drugs. Lack of rules, routine or dicipline for kids. Irresponsible behavior encouraged (eg ripping off other people for personal gain, laughing at others misfortunes). Kids left home alone for long periods without supervision. Screaming matches between mum and 9yr old - neighbour called DOCS. Kids not attending school becasue mum (who doesnt work) often sleeps past 10am and therefore isnt awake to ensure the attend. Mother claims she cannot control children or stop them doing what they want, even after she says no, but there is no punishment or consecquence

I can't believe this sounds exactly like my problem. I have three step children. Two live with their mom. We have gone through the same problems you describe. these kids even witnessed someone overdosing. Even after that woman's death, child protective services would not step in and do anything for those kids. they still live with their mother. we have gone to CPS several times and always hit a dead end. I guess your first step is to go to CPS but if they are like anything in our small community, you can give up. unless you have the resources to hire a lawyer, and have plenty of witnesses to things that are going on, all you can do is pray for the kids and influence them with as much love as you can when you have them around. If you get any better answers, pls email me. we haven't found any better solutions. good luck.

You have to present your case to the social services, and then seek legal advise,
Ask the social services to investigate, as if the kids aren't attending school then they may already be aware,
I trust however that he is paying child support, as you will have to be seen to be supporting the children, It will go in your favour.
However
It's not easy being a single mum, do you have the children overnight, does she ever get time without the children,
Perhaps she may need some support.

Call the Dept. of child and families and report her. If she leaves them alone and takes drugs, that is endangering the children. Let DCF investigate. Your husband will also have to hire a lawyer to file for custody.

Call Children's Aid or whatever you have in your area and have the children removed from the house. It is time to get a lawyer and get the kids. This is a ridiculous situation for anybody to be in. It will damage these kids and ruin their lives forever. Act now.

Courts and Child welfare agencies are the only way. If you want it hard enough you will do it for the kids sake.

If you have proof of all of the above WHY hasn't your husband gone to court to get custody? Since he hasn't HE is as much to blame as their mother is.
