First time to casino, looking to have fun but not blow my wallet. No experience with blackjack, craps, or whatever else. What should I stick to or go with...slots, etc?

Some casinos (especially in Vegas) have teaching sessions in the morning to help people learn how to play the games.

Blackjack is a pretty easy game. Just search for articles on basic strategy, or go to the casino gift shop, and you can probably buy a little laminated card which shows you what the basic strategy is (always split 8's, never split 10's, etc.). Craps is the most difficult game for beginners.

If you are in a town with choices of casino, look for casinos with relatively low minimums on their table games. Here's a clue, if you are in the nicest casino in town, chances are the table minimums are the highest in town. Look for $5 minimum bet tables. But if it's a weekend, chances are the lowest table might be $10.

If there's a poker room, see what the lowest available game is. If it's 2/4 (limit, not no-limit) hold'em, you should be able to purchase $100 in chips and play for at least a couple hours (unless you don't know how to fold).

My wife and I just had a lot of fun playing nickel slots (never thought it would be fun playing slots). Just be aware that machines that look like video games offer many payoff lines (some games have up to 15 lines) and the chance to increase you wager on each line (1-5 nickels). So even though it is a nickel slot, if you hit the "MAX BET" button, you are playing 75 nickels ($3.75!) on one spin! Which is more than a max-bet on a standard 25cent video poker machine ($1.25). In general, video poker machines have better payouts then slots. In a standard Jacks or better game, hold all pairs, if no pair then hold all cards Jack or higher (generally speaking, optimal strategy on video poker games gets very complicated also).

Good luck, don't lose too much...

If you are going somewhere with a lot of casinos together (ie Vegas or Atlantic City) one of the best things you can do is visit as many as you can. Go and sign up with the players club of that casino...this will usually give you a lot of freebies like free slot pulls...matching bets on a hand of blackjack..free drinks...free food, etc. Many casinos are willing to give you free things to entice you into staying, but you're not required. Use up all the free stuff and move along.

As far as gaming...I would practice with software or a video game prior to going. Your best bet would be to learn the basic craps bets (pass/don't pass) and that's it. It looks more complicated than it is. Craps offers you the best odds in the house, plus it is a lot of fun and a team game where everyone at the table is playing with you against the house. High fives and fun all around.

You should be able to find a $3 minumum bet craps table and will be able to play for a long time with $50. You'll have fun and maybe win a little bit...good luck and have fun.

First thing is to set a limit on the amount of money you will spend/lose. Second is when you double your money walk away.

DO NOT carry more money than you want to lose. Don't think you have learned some system from a book or person that guarantees you will win. Those billion dollar casinos in Vegas should tell you that the average person (you) will eventually lose.

Depends on which city your are gambling at but I would recommend you start simple and small, like 21/blackjack because it is easier to do/learn. Craps has lots of side bets, etc., the average citizen is not aware of. Slots are fun and easy, money in, win or lose.

I wish you luck! Because luck is the name of gambling.

Aside from gambling, Casinos offer a wide variety of activities. I suggest seeing shows or by going to some of the dining establishments. Take advantage of the free attractions like lounge acts.

All the other answers are very good for gambling but having monetary limits on gambling is the most important.

Craps appears complicated to the novice .It is the simplest game to play if you ignore most of the bets on the table.

Here is a CRAPS 101 you can copy/paste complete with terminology and some basic plays.
