I am pretty positive that if you follow the packing list and the guidebook you will be good to go. Just do not bring anything extra that would be considered "contraband". Use common sense and LISTEN to what your drill Sergeant is telling you to do. At least they are providing you some sort of packing list. When I went through, I had to go off of what others were telling me and when I got there they took everything I had and gave me what they needed me to have.
Things are better for the soldier these days, because retention is very important. Remember that you are not a soldier until you graduate from Basic and AIT. Depending on how well you do, I would recommend that you not hesitate to go straight to Air Assault and Airborne school as soon as the opportunity is given to you. You will be physically fit, mentally ready, and willing to do your best. Good luck and keep your head up.

Don't do what I did many years ago. I decided to bring some books, just some light reading. Somewhere, those books rest on a bookshelf of a retired NCO.
But really, good running shoes are a must. A change of clothing but they will provide nearly everything else.
Good luck and remember: Don't take anything personally. The NCOs who are giving you all get out went through it, too. It's one of life's more interesting experiences.

I recommend you only bring a few sets of clothing to get you there. If basic now is anything like when I went through you won't need anything else. The Army will provide you everything you are allowed to have, everything else will be taken away before you start your training. Of course, you will get it all back before you move on to your next duty location. Enjoy, and say "Sir, yes, Sir!" to your drill instructor for me!

Comfortable shoes and clothing that you are used \too wearing. There is nothing worse than hard shoes that give you blisters and scratchy tops etc etc.
You should also bring with you a mentalitiy that you know what you are doing and are determined to see it through.
P.M.A Positive Mental Attitude.

They're going to make you buy everything on the list when you get there. All you really need is a couple pairs of underwear.

Make sure not to bring any extra's (ie. mp3 players, books...) They don't like that. You will get yelled at, and have to give it up. Leave it at home. You'll get brownie points because they will be yelling at others. GOOD LUCK!!
