My GP has put on a body building program as I am severly under weight. He has said I have to do plenty of exercises but cannot afford to go to a gym. He has also put me high carb and high protein supplements.
Please help me...

GPs can prescribe gym membership for obese patients but I have never seen it prescribed for underweight patients;

Its actually quite unfair... Clinically obese people can get gym membership on prescription through GP Exercise Referral Schemes across the country. I'm not not sure whether you are eligible due to being under weight but its worth a try.

Call your Local Health Board (Google them or look up in phone book) and ask whether they have an exercise referral scheme.

I included a link as an example for one in Stratford.

The only way a doctor will give you gym on a script is if you are very overweight ,have you got a public swimming pool near you ,they usually have gyms and are usually fairly cheap,why dont you see if friends or family have bought gym weights they dont use anymore,people buy them and only use them once,a can of beans can work as a weight only hp though lol.

You may be eligible for free gym sessions if your doctor recomends them. Go to a local gym run by the council and ask if they have a doctor referral program. It is usually used for those people who are older and likely to suffer from/or have suffered from heart problems. The only restriction will be that you will be given a program of workouts to do, you must stick to them and you wioll be monitored. It isn't a pass to just get free gym memebership.

Get some weights and a press up bench from Argos. By June you'll be a different person with a different body and mind. If you are overweight then get a good pair of supported trainers (not from Lidl for £4.99! Buy something decent) - then get walking, fast and regular.

You do not need a gym to do exercise. You have plenty of weights at home to use,large books, irons and so on.
Call the national heath physiotherapy help line and they will tell you the exercises you do. Doctors surgery will have the number.

You do not need to go to a gym to exercise. Walk around your block. Lift tins of beans, water bottles. Buy a exercise DVD/Video. If you have a PS2, I can recommend EyeToy Kinetic, but any EyeToy game is good exercise.

Spread hummus, mustard, or pureed roasted red pepper on sandwiches as an alternative to mayonnaise.
