Law enforcement officers have the most difficult and dangerous job I can think of. They have a high divorce rate. Every day they go to work, there is a possibility that they will not come home. They must deal with the lowest scum of the human population most of the time. They are subject to derogatory language and cursing. If they work on the street, they risk their lives every time they pull someone over or go on a domestic violence call. If they work in the jails (or prison), they risk having a prisoner throw human excrement on them.
To insult them even more, they are not paid well and must work a second job to make ends meet.
I, personally, would not want their job and respect them for what they do. There are some bad cops, just like there are bad people in every profession. You shouldn't judge them all by the acts of a few.

after living for a long time in both the UK and Germany and now in the USA............the police in the USA deal with some of the biggest stress loads that most of us can only begin to imagine.
Whilst I have a lot of time for the police I would like to say that they are probably the most unfriendly group I have ever met, when you are out with your children and see a policeman coming up it is our habit to smile and nod at them.....so far all we get back is a blank hard stare.......yet these would be the same police that complain that the youth of today have no respect HMMMMMM lets see you blank out kids and then wonder why a year or so down the line they ignore you............the smile and nod is ONLY out of respect for their hard work etc.
ALL police do a very hard job, usually under horrid circumstances often dealing with people not at their best.........after dating a couple of police in the past, dont think I would like to join, but the sure know how to party when off duty

I think they have a tough job because some people in the world can't follow simple rules. I am a firm believer if you run from the police they should be able to shoot. If you are running from them you are doing something wrong in the first place. We have lost too many people/police because of ignorance and disrespect for the law and our fellow citizens
