in the middle of the night. I also have to take them with food. If i took them every 5 hours instead would it harm me? For example, 7am, 12 noon, 5pm and 10 pm.

It wouldn't harm you at all. You're more likely to take them for the full course if the times are convenient.
In hospital we'd rarrely wake someone up to give them oral antibiotics in the middle of the night.
The regime you've thought out for yourself should do the trick.
But be sure and finish the entire course or else the infection will probably come back and be more difficult to treat. Thats one of the reasons that infections are getting stronger and harder to treat (ie MRSA etc)

What they mean for you to do is to take the tablets every 6 hours that you are awake
So if you wake at 7am you eat as quick as you can and have the tablet, next time would be 1pm..then 7pm...
Only if you are awake should you take one the 6 hours after
You shouldnt take them at any different times then the doctor/dentist has said

No, you don't take them during the night. I always take that type of antibiotic at nine in the morning, three in the afternoon and ine in the evening. It can be a real pain trying to take them after meals but a couple of biscuits or a banana before taking them at awkward times would be OK.

You should really try and stick to the 6 hour intervals because they work these things out by doing lots of tests when they develop the medicines so you don't get lots of the medicine building up in your system before your body gets rid of it.
The one that would involve you getting up can be taken when it's convenient to you though. And be sure to finish the full course.

I once too had to take antibiotics but it was every 4 hours, but i just took them from morning thru night. I went to bed and when i woke up i took the pill. As long as your taking them they wont harm you.

Four times a day is more important than exactly six hours. Take them after getting up, and before you go to bed, and the other two doses at convenient mealtimes more-or-less equally spaced through the day.
