Evolution is a science. A science is a 'theory' that will stand until another theory comes along that better explains the phenomenon that occurred that disproved the theory before. Not to many observations and assumptions last for long in science. Even the theory of conservation of energy was replaced by the better theory of Einsteins theory of relativity.

Evolution by natural selection, the central concept of the life's work of Charles Darwin, is a theory. It's a theory about the origin of adaptation, complexity, and diversity among Earth's living creatures. If you are skeptical by nature, unfamiliar with the terminology of science, and unaware of the overwhelming evidence, you might even be tempted to say that it's "just" a theory. In the same sense, relativity as described by Albert Einstein is "just" a theory. The notion that Earth orbits around the sun rather than vice versa, offered by Copernicus in 1543, is a theory. Continental drift is a theory. The existence, structure, and dynamics of atoms? Atomic theory. Even electricity is a theoretical construct, involving electrons, which are tiny units of charged mass that no one has ever seen. Each of these theories is an explanation that has been confirmed to such a degree, by observation and experiment, that knowledgeable experts accept it as fact. That's what scientists mean when they talk about a theory: not a dreamy and unreliable speculation, but an explanatory statement that fits the evidence. They embrace such an explanation confidently but provisionally—taking it as their best available view of reality, at least until some severely conflicting data or some better explanation might come along.

Minxy - You get an A+ in my class today, lol.
Listen...theory is not fact and evolution is not a fact. Saying it does not make it so anymore than saying creation is a fact makes it so. You do not get it both ways. I believe in and teach others the Bang and Evolution and yes, they are both heavily supported by evidence...but they will always be theories, not facts.
This argument between the fanatic creationalists and the fanatic bangers and evolutionists is never going to end because, though its not a fact I can prove, but its my theory based on knowing people...the hard headed fanatics on both sides are never going to give in.

It is both. Evolution of species happens-that can't be questioned but the theory is about the mechanisms as to how and why it happens. Darwinism for example is an evolutionary theory but one supported by such a weight of evidence that it is accepted by most biologists as a fact. Anybody who glibly states evolution doesn't occur is either ignorant of the facts or bigotted. The proof is in an extensive fossil record-without "missing links"- and the physiological similarities between species which is proof of a shared ancestry.

It is a fact as well as a theory. It's a statistical phenomenon, and you can understand it this way:
Imagine that you have a bucket full of sand, rocks, and pebbles. The average size of the "thing" in that bucket is 5/8" around. You pour the contents through a 1/2" wire screen into another bucket. Now the average size of the "thing" in the bucket is 3/8" around. You pour it through a finer screen, and now the average size of the "thing" in the bucket is 1/8" around. Selection pressures cause the characteristics of populations to change over time.
Every time a person says "evolution is just a theory", that person is simply revealing his or her willful ignorance. Don't pay attention to those liars if you really want to learn something about this topic.

Get yourself a science dictionary. You'll find that it is called the, "theory of evolution." It is a theory, not a fact. If there were proof, the word "theory" would have been removed. As of today, January 12, 2007, proof has not been found and the word "theory" has not been removed.

The difficulty seems to be that there are more than one meanings of the word "theory." In common parlance, "theory" is often no more than a guess, while in scientific language "theory" means a hypothesis that has been confirmed and supported by evidence.

If you take a look at the present , you can understand how evolution works. Remember the idea of god only exist because we make him exist in our minds. Obviously we were not always humans, and there was life before us, because if we were always here,we would be way past our present advancements in the relm of everything.

I don't get exactly what you are asking, but I believe Evolution is a theory, and is far from fact. I will show you the many things that disprove evolution. Are you ready!? Okay...here it goes...
1. Evolution says that they date fossils by the geographic column, but then they say they date the geographic column by the fossils. Does that make sense to you? it's kinda like adding 2 to 0 and then subract 2 from 2. You get nothing!
2. In one of my science books it says on one page that it take 10,000 year for a fossil to form. then on the next page it say it take a quick burial and the right minerials to form a fossil. 10,000 years isn't a quick burial.
3. Carbon dating doesn't work okay. There was this volcanic rock that these scientist knew to be 50 years old. They sent a sample of it around the world for different scientist to test the rock different way including Carbon 14-dating. The "age" of the rock ranged from 100reds of thousands year old to the millions of years old. So their dating methods don't really work, sorry.
4. Then evolution had certain animals that lived millions of years ago and can't exsist anymore. Well, guess what, some of those animals have been recently found. This certain type of fish has been found that was supposed to be exstinct millions of years ago.
5. Now if the earth was billions of years old there would be a whole lot more people on this earth. But research shows that the population started 4300 years ago. The flood explains this. About 4400 years ago there was a flood, and only 8 people survived and started the population. So the earth can't be millions of years old.
6. If Galexies were billions of years old they would not be in spiral shape, but they are still in a spiral shape. So the galexies is not billions of years old.
7. Planets in our galexies cool off, if they were millions of years old they would be totally cooled off by now, but they are not.
8. The moon is moving away from the earth, so it used to be closer to the earth. If earth was less than 2 million years old then the moon would be touching the earth. That can't be, so the earth should be a lot less younger that 2 million years old.
9. Earth magnets are getting weaker and weaker every year. The earth has to be less than 25,000 year old. That's a lot less than 4.6billion years old.
10. the Shaharh desert is growing 4 miles a year, so the desert started about 4000 years ago, not millions. the flood explains this too, for about 4400 years ago there was a flood.
11. there was an airplane that was lost in 1942 in greenland. Evolutionist say that the black rings on a ice core are annual rings and so that proves that the earth is millions of year old b/c there are so many of those rings. Some people went to greenland and drilled through miles of ice to get the plane out. One of the guys drilling down there say 100s of thousands of rings were found, till where the plane was. The plane was only 44years old, so those rings are not annual rings, right, so they don't prove at all that the earth is billions of years old.
12. The oldest tree on earth is 4300 years old. The flood explains this too!
13. The great barrier reef has to be less than 4200 years old. The flood explains this. If the earth was billions of years old the great barrier reef would have been a ton bigger than it is now.
14. Rivers bring minerals, such as salt into the ocean every day. If the earth was billions of years old, there would be a LOT more salt in the ocean.
Well, that is all I have for now. There are still 100s of more lies in the evolution theory. Don't fall into their lies!
