Did you forget that both men and women are to dress modestly. To not tempt the opposite sex.

Did you forget that both men and women are to lower their gaze with in the presence of the opposite sex.

These are obligations for both sexes. I doubt that you were ever a Muslim or you would know this

There is nothing that says we must fully cover in the Quran. We must dress modestly and cover our chest area. I never walk with my head bowed down and i have never seen any other Muslim women even in Muslim countries with there head bowed down. Well there would be a heck of a lot of us knocked down by cars if we could not look left or right.
As usual you have things out of context and incorrect, no surprise there then. Even in Muslim countries ie Tunisia there are plenty of Muslim women with no head scarf at all. So you have no clue what you are talking about.

Muslim men can look at a woman once, that's OK. Look twice and its against you. Muslim men respect Muslim women so its nothing to do with avoiding tempting them. Its to do with respect for yourself and for your husband for your parents and your family nothing to do with Temptation im afraid.

Yep our heads are always bowed and we dont look left or right....its amazing how we are not always walking around bumping into things dont ya think? Seriously you need to find something better to do with your time instead of altering verses of the Qur'an. I do believe it doesnt even say anything in that sura about not looking left or right, it actually says for woman to "lower her gaze" (from looking at forbidden things) ...thats a bit different to ALWAYS bowing her head and not being able to look left or right... know your facts

People usually only discuss ‘hijaab’ in the context of women. However, in the Glorious Qur’an, Allah (swt) first mentions ‘hijab’ for men BEFORE ‘hijab’ for the women. The Qur’an mentions in Surah Noor:

"Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them: and Allah is well acquainted with all that they do."
[Al-Qur’an 24:30]

The moment a man looks at a woman and if any brazen or unashamed thought comes to his mind, he should lower his gaze.

The next verse of Surah Noor, says:

" And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands’ fathers, their sons..."
[Al-Qur’an 24:31]

so lets see, where r the words abt left n rite??? OH NO! AGAIN ur ques backfired on u! OH I FEEL SO SAD 4 U!

As usual, I LOVE answering your questions because they make me feel very, very smart, mashaAllah :D!
24:31: "And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband's fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women, or the slaves whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex; and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O ye Believers! turn ye all together towards Allah, that ye may attain Bliss."
We (Muslim women) are to cover our hair, neck, chest, arms, legs. And our body outlines should not show since men tend to get "hungry" when they see those outlines. The verse up there does NOT say to FULLY cover. The face does not HAVE to be covered; some Muslim women CHOOSE to cover their faces.

Now, explain to me something. WHY should a woman disrespect herself and her body and expose her body to every man there is? Of course she should cover herself in order to avoid tempting men (NOT just Muslim men; ALL men!!). This has been proven statistically to work, okay?

MEN are ALSO told to lower their gazes when they come in contact with women!!! This is called RESPECTING women!

Quran, 24:30: "Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them: And Allah is well acquainted with all that they do."

BOTH men and women are to dress modestly; it's just that men get "hungry" more easily than women do, so women are told to dress in such a way that won't please men.
At least we're not like most western women who dress in such a way that please men!!! They don't realize that they're being submissive to men. I pity them all. May God guide them (and you) to the Right Path.

You probably think that Islam places women to the lowest of level, but Muhammad once said that eve is made from adam's rib so that she will be a companion.. Married Muslim men have very high responsibility upon his wife, such that his wife has been provided with suffiecient food, clothing and shelter, but a wife can actually not share her money with her husband.. the ayat you gave is not right. others have mention y, but if you left Islam bcoz you think Islam do not give rights to women, think again, during the jahiliyah period, female babies were buried alive, and Islam stopped that tradition, if ur an arab, u may not be alive bcoz of Islam... ie, ur ancestors might have buried your female ancestors

Wow ... never thought you would show ignorance in quoting the Quran.
ExMuslimah .. if you are done with Islam (and you embraced something else), why are you still bitter about Islam? maybe because you feel in your heart you have abandoned the truth for some falsehood, and arrogance preventing you from admitting that.

May Peace Mercy and Blessings of Allah(swt) be on all of you readers.

Exmuslima:

you have been naughty havent you?

lets see what have you got this time:

Hmm verses from the Quran CH24 v:31 wow!!atleast you have read the Quran;well should have read the whole verse .

but what is this ?you forgot to quote the full verse. ,O!! and also you have aded your own words with the words of Quran as well.

Naughty very Naughty this is

let us see what the ch:24 verse 30 actually says:
If you read the Qur’an -
before the mentioning of the ‘Hijab’ for the women, the Qur’an mentioned the ‘Hijab’, for men.

It is mentioned in Surah Nur, Ch. No. 24, Verse No. 30,

"says to the believing men, that… ‘they should lower there gaze and guard there modesty;that will make for greater purity for them:and Allah is well acquainted with all that they do"

means the moment a man looks at a woman and if any brazen or unashamed thought comes to his mind ,he should lower his gaze.

The next Verse… Surah Nur, Ch. 24, Verse No. 31,
says...(which you have quoted partialy and rongly)

‘Say to the believing women, that she should lower there gaze and guard there modesty and display not their beauty, and ornaments except what is that necessary of;that they should draw veils over there bosom, except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands's fathers, their sons......."

OOOOOps i dotn see" bowing of the head or looking left or right" in this verse . so you have made fun of your self once again.

well no problems!! better luck next time.

Now the Question ,why is "HIJAB" prescribed ?the answer is below.

The criteria for Hijab in Islam, can be found in the Qur’an, and the Sahih (authentic)Hadith. There are six criteria –

1st is extent, which is the only difference between a man and a woman. For the man, he has to be covered from the naval to the knee. For the woman, her complete body should be covered - the only part that can be seen, should not be seen, is the face and the hands up to the wrist. If she wishes to cover them, she is most welcome, but it is not compulsory that she should cover it - Otherwise the full body should be covered. The only part that can been seen… not should not be seen, is the wrist, face and the hands, up to the wrist. This is the only criteria which differs, between the man and the woman.

The second criteria is that, the clothes they wear, should not be so tight, that it reveals the figure.

The clothes they wears… third point - it should not be so transparent, so that you can see through.

And the fourth point - they should not wear glamorous clothes, which attracts the opposite sex.

The fifth point is that a person should not wear cloth, which resembles that of the opposite sex - like you find men wearing earnings. If you wear one earring, it signifies something else - if you wear two earrings, it signifies something else. It is prohibited in Islam.

And the last criteria is, you should not wear clothes which… that resemble of an unbeliever.(like wearing a cross or sikh turbine etc).

These are the six basic criteria of Hijab, in Islam for men and women but unfortunately western media as well as many muslims just push the button in case of hijab for women only because of teh misconception by the critics western media and the social and cultural influence.
That is why it is important to understand the religion not by looking at the followers but at the authentic sourses of the religion
In case of Islam these are The Quran and Sahih(authentic hadith)
. Now coming to the question - why then Islam believe in ‘hijab”(Islamic code of dress. and why are there segregation of sexes?

We have to analise the society in which there is ‘Hijab ’, and society in which there is, ‘No Hijab ’.
The maximum number of crime that takes place in any country… it is in America.
According to a report by the FBI in 1990, in the year 1990… ‘One thousand, two hundred & fifty five women were raped’. These are only the reported cases - And the report says… ‘Only 16% of the cases were reported’. If you want those exact figure, multiply 1,02,555 with 6.25, and you get the answer - more than 6,40,000 ladies were raped in America only in 1990. And if you divide this… by the number of days, divide by 365, you get a figure of One thousand, seven hundred and fifty six women are raped every day, in America, in the year 1990.

And the report in 1991 says... ‘Every day… One thousand, nine hundred ladies are raped’ - May be it is the report of 1991… the Americans got more bold.
another report which came in Autumn, in 1993, it says... ‘Every 1.3 minute, one woman is raped’ -and the crime is on a rise since than.
.
out of 6%- Only 10% are arrested - means only 1.6% of the cases, are arrested. Out of that, 50% are let free before the trial – Means, only 0.8% of the rape cases, are held.

Means, if a man rapes One hundred & twenty five ladies approx, the chances of his being caught, is one. Who would not like to try ?

irrespective a lady does Hijab, or not, a man is commanded… ‘He should lower his gaze’.

I am asking a simple question - if you ask every lady to do Hijab, and when any men look at her and any brazen thought, any unashamed thought comes in him mind he lowers his gaze, will the rape case in USA remain the same, will it decrease, or will it increase?
,
and if suppose after that, if a man commits rape… in Islam, he receives capital punishment - you call it a barbaric law? I have asked this question to many of the gents. Suppose your sister or your mother or your wife is raped, and if you are made the judge -
leave aside what Islam tells you, leave aside what American law tells you - If you are made the judge, what punishment will you give to the rapist of your sister, mother or wife? And all have said… ‘Death sentence’ - Few went to the extreme of saying… ‘I will torture him to death’. Than why these double standards?if your wife or sister gets raped ,death penalty, and if some one else z than it becomes a barbaric law?

I Want to ask you a question… ‘If you apply the Islamic Shariah law in America, will the rape case decrease, will it remain the same, or will it increase? But natural it will decrease.
So we have to understand Islam as a whole and not isolate the principles and verses from the Quran.

only speaking on ‘Hijab ’… you can talk for days - Just I would like to end my answer, by giving a small example.

Suppose two ladies… two twin sisters were equally beautiful - if they are walking down the street, and if round the corner there is a hooligan, who is waiting for a catch… who is waiting to tease a girl. Both twin sisters are walking, both are equally beautiful - one is in the Hijab… Islamic Hijab - one is wearing a mini or a skirt. Which girl will that hooligan tease? … Which girl will he tease? But natural, the one in the short or the mini girl. It is practical proof, that Hijab is been ordained in Islam… not to degrade the woman, but to protect her modesty.

Allah Rightly says IN Surah Al-Ahzab ch:33 v:59 that Hijab protects women from molestation.

Allah says:"O Prophet! tell thy wives and daughters, and the believing women that they should cast there outer garments over there persons(when abroad);that is most convenient, that they should be known(as such)and not molested. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving,Most Merciful".

May peace mercy and blessings of Allah be on all of you readers.
