are there soothing or healing ointments in it that lotion doesn't have? The only difference I can tell is that it smells better than facial lotion...so why waste my money on it.

aftershave was invented in a time when the only shaving tool was a straight razor. besides the fufu smell, the alcohol was believed to close the pores in the face to make the skin feel smooth and also to prevent infection due to razor burn or cuts.
