Don't you think there is way too much hostility in the Religious section? There are some people who are SOLELY devoted to abusing certain religions relentlessly almost as if it is their sole purpose to be here.
And I think it is so ugly that even people from other faiths are coming to rescue of other religions by asking people to stop it. I have learnt a few things from here about other religions from intelligent people and I am happy to have learnt them. But is there a way to curb this hostility, these small hateful messages some of which are almost disturbing?

BTW My point is a bit similar to that of Summer Time Mom... argument and debate is healthy but we should not be UNkind to each other.
And no, I am not OFFENDED by any remark, I was merely asking a question; I am too comfortable with my beliefs to be offended by anyone here.

I've always been annoyed by that. A gentle critique of a religion is fine.

But the endless "All muslims are terrorists", and "All christians are idiot theocrats", and "all catholics are statue worshipping pedophiles!" that is implied in the rhetorical questions and non-answers that get bandied about... I find it draining to wade through all that some days.

But worse than how I feel, is how they must feel. Nobody carrying that much anger around can be healthy. Imagine bottling that kind of rage all the time?

Jaycubb...and the rest...two things I am tired of hearing from the rage filled rightest anti-Christians (that should make it clear who I mean)...All Christians neither lack intelligence or education, some may...just as soom of your ilk does.

Secondly, Christians have as much right to be in politics as anyone. This country is as much for the Christians as it is for you and the Christians have as much a right to a say in their government as you...so back off.

Do you know you look ridiculous complaining about words on money when most of us are glad to have enough to live on?

Do you know you look ridiculous when you worry about a stone or a cross or a prayer?

You look petty and stupid. While you are worrying about these things that really do not matter...the fundies, the religious right radicals and fanatics are running OUR government and influencing decisions that effect US a lot more than these things.

You wanna change things...do it with your vote and get involved. Get off here and get a life and make a difference where it really COUNTS.

But do not ever tell me that because I am a Christian I am stupid or cannot have a voice in MY country. If you think that is true then YOU go find out what Freedom of Religion is really all about. Because if I lose mine...you lose yours too.

I think the best way to curb this hostility is to ignore it. If we as a collective do not give into the bigotry and hatred of others then we take away the fuel of their fire. The one thing someone that outspoken dislikes is not being heard and given time will move on. It is much easier to click on the back button and just pretend their message was never read just like channel surfing on TV when you find something you don't like, just move on. If you bother to answer them or to some even report them they know you have read their message and it has gotten a reaction out of you. Lets us all just hope that someday these people will find some matter of peace and be able to get on with their lives without hatred like that they spew.

First of all, let me preface my comments by saying I am an atheist. That being said, I actually agree with you. I don't think there is any place in civil discourse for blatant hatred and hostility. I think if we are going to come to any kind of understanding we have to respect the beliefs, or lack of beliefs, of each other.

I have friends in many religions and we can be friends without sniping at each other constantly. We do tease from time to time to time, but we know when we are teasing and keep it where it doesn't hurt.

Religion has been a point of war since the dawn of time, I understand your deep want for peace. It probably won't happen seeing as the internet is fraught with angry people who have a connection to the internet and alot of time on their hands. (Not to mention they usually have an opinion also) You must remember that all posts made here have a little link under them that says "report abuse" if someone is being slanderous, disrespectful, racist or one of many other rude things, you can report them. If it disturbs you that much, report these comments that are so hateful.

The fix is as close as your exit button.

I am sometimes amazed that some of the religious questions want constant support for absolute drivel. Religion has a lot to answer for in history. It has been responsible for wars, rape, plunder of a countries riches in the name of the king and the religious order that supported that reign. It has also destroyed cultures in the aim of bringing religion to simple natives. In australia the religious clergy were apalled to find aboriginals didn't wear clothes and issisted they dress in suits and ties. How ludicrous is that? Other cultures had to cover their womens breasts and wear bras because it offended the clergy to see naked flesh ( but we wont talk about all their sodomy of altar boys will we ? NO we will cover all that up and pretend that we are so pius.

Don;t you think this over the top madness.
So dont clap trap on about hostility when the church and religions themselves have continuously been involved in hostilities.
If your going to ask questions that only require stock supporting answers then don't ask them at all. The way to learn is to listen to both sides of the argument and become better informed. But most religious people would rather stick their head in the sand .

I agree up to a point but you would need the patience of a saint to let some of the religious fantasies posted here escape without a scathing comment. You just can't tolerate people who think the world is 6000 years old-they invite a hostile response.

Following a religion requires that you accept its teachings. Most religions teach superiority over the others .They all can`t be right.
They are divisive tools in which religions " Judge "people from other faiths. All this going back and forth is ridiculous, especially when there is absolutely no PROOF of any of these Gods Existing .I am glad NOT to have religion in my life ,so I can be less judgmental of people .I take them at face value .How they treat others and carefor their families is what is important .

Peace!
There are some groups here that are just rude, arrogant and obnoxious. That kind of behaviour has no place in a Religion and Spirituality section. We are supposed to be models no matter what kind of beliefs we have. I have been insulted, rediculed and called many unprintable obscenities simply because I do not agree with their point of view.
I suggest you file your complaint with Yahoo.

Are you referring to all comments that are not intended to answer the question, or the sincerely hostile ones?

I admit that a lot of my answers are silly, but I find few of them to be hostile...

So many people are just here to have a good time.. I don't see the point of taking that away from them. However, those who do nothing more than belittle others shouldn't be tolerated.

Meh.
