Before I start I'd like to say I'm not trying to nor interested in starting a flame war; I am genuinely curious.

Ok, lets say, HYPOTHETICALY, you were given proof positive that there is no God. What would you do? how would you deal with it? and what would change in your life? whould you continue on with ideals like "love thy neighbor" and all that good stuff?

This question is intended for people who genuinely believe God exists. I've asked this to several people and I’ve gotten answers that are all over the board.

*** PLEASE if all you are going to say is "WELL THERE IS A GOD SO :-P", I am NOT interested in your opinion. Please don't try to prove to me there is a God, as that is not what I'm asking! I would truely enjoy hearing honest answers as to what you would do if the situation presented itself.

to clearify: I dont mean just christians or even monotheistic believers alone. I mean anyone who believes in any god/gods/godess/godesses.

further clearification: I am talking about God and God only, not the teachings of said existant or non-existant being(s).

I'd do my best. Whether I created God or God created me.

Honestly it wouldn't change my faith at all. I believe that the Divine is within us all and we are all a part of the Divine, so the only way I wouldn't believe there was a God and Goddess is if there were no people, no Mother Earth, and no Sun so I guess it is a moot point. Whenever I look upon someone else, or even myself, I see one of the many faces of the Divine. And I still would believe in Karma and that what energy you put forth in the Universe comes back to you.

Blessed Be )O(

Well I have just answered virtually the same question by another person and I will say the same thing here, again let me put it to you this way, if you were right that there is no God and I found out this was so I would not lose a thing because living by the Bible's advice has improved my life tenfold and I have reaped much from doing so, but if I am right and there is a God, then, you will be in strife, and you will loose out, think about that, and search for the real truth , maybe you can still reap some benefits, instead, of forefitting them all! Certainly worth considering that one but that choice is yours. But you are right this is serious stuff!

My response kind of depends on the intent on your question:
If there was no God? Probably would've committed suicide about three years ago. Believing that God has some kind of plan or purpose for my life has at times been the only thing giving me enough strength to get through some of the really dark times. ("God has a plan for my life and it does not involve me being so miserable ergo, things WILL get better," is what I tell myself)

If your question is more like "What if you knew there was no moral code derived from a higher power with consequences for your actions that stem beyond the physical realm?" then my answer is different.
I'd probably be a con artist. I think I'd be very good at manipulating people. Boy, what a scary thought.

It woul dmean that we're in a big mess, as we are apparently de-evolving. Apparently at some point in our past we lived for over 10,000 years, as that is how long it would take for the human brain to fill to capacity of knowledge.

Studies, like that done by the University of Michigan, and features in the Discovery Channel program, The Amazing Life of the Human Brain, shows just how amazing the human brain is.

Every second while awake, we are absorbing 40MBs of data. That’s 144 gigabytes per hour and about 2 terabytes per day. That’s a lot of data even for the largest computer.

When we sleep at night, and only at night or under nighttime conditions, all that data is sorted and stored through the creation of synaptic connectors and biochemical bounds. The brain has enough volume to allow for the creation of these storage connectors to last over 10,000 years.

Since we no longer use that capacity, than apparently once we did and have gone downhill since than. We are now down to less than 1% of that. With no God, we're in deep doo doo.

Love thy neighbor is not implied in theology. One does not need a god to be good to his fellow creatures.

I do not believe in 'god' the way Christians, Moslems, or Judaic religions do... but I do understand the world in a spiritual way. It is far too complex to detail how I understand things this way... but, if you were somehow able to dissolve that understanding ... I'd revert to an ultimate simplicity. My nature is to adapt. I would prosper with the earth, just as I do now. I am independant of this 'entity' just as I am unified with it... there is no real separation... yet a constant separation.

A belief in a higher level of intelligence (which is the conceptual 'god') aids in human understanding of the self... it is a drawing down of and lifting up the personas... can you eraticate the Self? if so, you destroy the link to understanding life... and consciousness dissolves... I use science, I don't believe in it. I use spirituality, I do not fixate on it.

Well I would rush out and celebrate. Because the world would be well rid of the notion of the existence of GOD. It would mean that we could divest ourselves of the money sucking religious dignitaries that turn good deeds into crap, salvage the simple and 3rd world civilisations from total destruction of their culture.Perhaps return all the stolen gold and jewels that the churches have plundered throughout history to their rightful owners. Priovide super housing in the soon to be disused chuch buildings that stand empty of 98% of their time. Start caring about our fellow humans without having to worry about offending their belief system. Sell off the land that religious orders have hoarded for their own wealth or even give it away to those in need.

Should i go on or is that enough to start the party?

Is this question for anyone, or just Christians?

I'm Pagan and I believe in a God and Goddess. I think I would be severly disappointed if there was no Deity. It would mean that there's no afterlife, no reincarnation, and I wont ever get to see my family again after they pass. It's also a scarey thought think that I would simply not exist anymore after my own death.

Even though I would stop worship, I wouldn't stop my philosyphy on taking care of our planet and each other.

if there was no god, there would not be a reason preventing me from being a bandit... and i think i m not the only one thinking that way...but i don't assert that the only reason to become a good person is to believe in God... in my opinion, human and the other creatures are valuable and unique with the value and uniqueness given by God to them. i mean, they are valuable and unique because they were given these by a more valuable (in fact most valuable) and a unique existence. so if there was no god and everything was not created and everyting has come into existence randomly, there is not any reason for me to love my neighbour because, because of the nature of the probability, he/she may not be existing and because he/she is not valuable and unique...

From my heart...honest answer:

If I found out there is no GOD...I would more than likely
after a few years be dead.

The thought (to me) of that being ever real....is the beginning of the end, for me and what is my need in this life...and a future for another!
Would I love as I do now...everyone! of course...without a problem.

I think I would want to die soon, and just never exist...to me it would shatter me soooo much!
I can even think about it, like wow! it would be so dreadful...
Now that's how I feel...and it is totally honest.

If there was no God, than this whole damm world's morality will be in chaos. lust greed and things of unrighteousness will be magnified. We will be like the Romans who went from virtue to vice. Because there would not be a God to maintain the survival of mankind. Matter of fact god's greatest gift to us is free will, if there was not a God we might have probably more stalins and hitlers and other dumb asses who don't give a ****!!
