I have read it is a really terrible place. Here is a website that has a glimpse of hell that someone made what it could be like but so much worse. When you get to the website, scroll down to the part that says "welcome to hell" and click on it and go from there.

First of all, the Torah doesn't mention "Hell", nor is that word in the the rest of the Christian bible's Old Testament.
It's Gehenna, not "Hell".
The word Gehenna traces to Greek, ultimately from Hebrew: ××(×)-××× ×× Gêhinnôm (also Guy ben-Hinnom (Hebrew: ××× ×× ××× ××)) meaning the Valley of Hinnom. The valley forms the southern border of ancient Jerusalem and stretches from the foot of Mt. Zion, eastward, to the Kidron Valley. It is first mentioned in Joshua 15:8. Originally it referred to a garbage dump in a deep narrow valley right outside the walls of Jerusalem (in modern-day Israel) where fires were kept burning to consume the refuse and keep down the stench. It is also the location where bodies of executed criminals, or individuals denied a proper burial, would be dumped.
Like Sheol, Gehenna is sometimes translated as "Hell", which is fine...but the IDEA of Gehenna, in the process of translation and interpretation took on an UNintended meaning, a wrong meaning..
Why would a garbage dump be considered a place of torment? Well, as you ought to know as a former Jew, the only immortality that people have (in Jewish tradition) is in the remembrance of others. The traditional Yahrzeit (the ceremony to mark annual anniversary of the death of a person) is one way in which the memory of a deceased Jew is kept alive. The yahrzeit is observed by lighting a twenty-four hour candle the evening before the day of the yahrzeit, and most people recite the Kaddish and take a few moments of introspection and thought. Most congregations recite the name of the deceased whose yahrzeit is being observed during the Shabbat services closest to the date.
Naming one's children after a deceased relative is another way to keep alive the memory of the dead.
So....in summary, the whole idea of "Hell" as a place of eternal torment is a misinterpretation of the Jewish idea that being lost to memory is the worst thing that can happen to someone. Having one's body thrown onto the trash heap rather then being buried in sanctified ground with a commemorative headstone, and not being remembered through ritual, prayer, or having one's name passed along to future generations - THAT is the original horror that has been changed into the idea of the soul in eternal torment in the flames of "Hell".

There is no such thing as Hell. Do a word search in the Bible and you'll discover the same thing. Dante and King James invented the concept. The original manuscript does not mention the word Hell at all. How could God love unconditionally if he sent people to a place like Hell? It would not be unconditional love if he did that. Amazing, he loves us even more than we thought. Do the search and you will discover the truth.-I'm battening down the hatches with this one. Because I know the defenders of this concept will be firing away.

There is no hell, there is no heaven, there is no afterlife of any kind. Live knowing that you've got 70 something years to exist, give or take a few, and the only 'afterlife' you will have is the lasting impression you leave for those who come after you - and know that kindness and charity is the most important legacy you can leave.
Which good works are more admirable - those done when no one is looking, or those done because you know someone is watching, ready with rewards or punishments? Real good, true good, exists away from - I would say IN SPITE of - the dangerous, false influence of religion. Millions have killed and died in the name of 'God'. No one has ever killed or died in the name of Atheism.

Hell is as real as heaven will be, I don't know excally what you are asking, but the Scriptures are full of verses about hell.
and if you are new to Christianty, you should focus on the New Testament Scriptures.. you will find more answers there to your questions.
also I invite you to email me if I can help.
The old testament is wonderful and I love reading it, but the death of Jesus released us from the law , and we are now living under Grace, which is not to say that the commandments are not relevant today, how can we know what is wrong to do if we have no law to tell us..
Jesus died to give us the right to go to heaven, but there are those who will not receive him, and those will receive eternal punishment in the lake of fire.

i dunno about after death, having not experienced that, and all religious men who answer are not speaking from experience, but by what some buffoon told them...Hell in my considered opinion is here on earth, it is that life i lived before being able to truly turn around by surrender to God's CARE (not control, because he cares), i lived in hell then and it was truly hell...
today i am not particularly pious, nor do i go to church very much...and heaven and hell after we check out is an open and nebulous issue. in my experience in prayer and meditation, and from what i've personally learned of the maker of galaxies, things may not be as cut and dried as the "faithful" seem to believe or would have us believe. eternity is forever and that is time without end, i somehow don't think a loving and eternal God would punish/hold a grudge forever about issues that spanned a man's life (that is a very short period of time)...i think it defeats the whole purpose of why Jesus went to the cross...he became the lamb of the passover on our behalf, and all that entails.
christians have gotten santa clause mixed in with their idea of God and have created a sort of graven image of God as santa clause, who will punish us if we are bad. this is breaking the first three commandments, right out of the chute, so how am i supposed to listen the them, now? no one knows what they are talking about.
the scriptures are fine and lovely and all that, and very good advise on how to live....but experience is the bottom line here, what it says in the book about patience working experience, experience working hope, and hope-faith, and faith is not of yourself it is a gift of God. (doesn't say anthing about being given only to good little boys and girls in there anywhere either.) you don't get faith by reading the Book, it comes with experiences in life and comming to understand how the makere of galaxies is working in your life in the here and now. apple pie in the sky ain't now. i know i paraphrased badly, but you know the part i'm refering to, so look it up for yourself and study from there. true christianity is about receiving the courage to face our fears with God's help...in the here and now...and to live victorious lives in the here and now...and to be forgiving in the here and now. and these things are tall orders in the here and now and don't leave alot of room for apple pie in the sky issues.

no such thing as hell. Its a Christian invention. You as a former Jew (you break my heart) should know that.
Yes Carnac, we dont believe in hell. Christians invented it to hold power over other people to get them to do what they want, Threaten someone with hell, and youve got a pretty strong hand there.

Is it true that Jews don't have hell? Maybe you should switch back to Judaism.
