Had it ended any other way, (i.e. Had god not rewarded him in the end for his faith) would you still believe or love God?

Of course! Our love for God isn't based on earthly rewards, but rather the reward of being united with Him in Heaven!

Take a lesson from Job himself, "Thou He yet SLAY me, still I will trust in Him."

The book of James goes on to talk about the fact that as Christians we are PROMISED trials, tribulations, and heartaches in this world. Heaven is the reward!
Great question, thanks!

It is a question of faith. Faith moves mountains. The story of Job, in my view, is an allegory about faith.

Problem often appears to be around logic and faith. As Henry Ford once said, "Thinking is the hardest work there is, which is probably the reason so few engage in it."

It is alright to think about the story ending the other way round and making your own decisions on how that enriches or lessens your faith without holding grudges with anybody who decides differently.

The scripture is clear, "vengeance is mine and I shall repay," saith the Lord. And heed the inspired words of Betty Smith in her book, "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" where she observes: "Forgiveness is a gift of high value. Yet its cost is nothing." These are simply stated but profound counsel.
Good luck

The story of Job is a very early metaphor for the life of Jesus, where God would allow evil to have it's way with a just and holy man, and do it's worst, but God would ultimately prevail, and restore all things.

Probably 10% of Christians have actually taken the time to read Job, so it's unlikely a different outcome to the story would have made much difference.

Even id it had, look around the trees, ocean, moon, stars, sun, was it created, or was there this great explosion and here it all is? I believe there is a creator/designer for everything. What's kind of hard to take is BOOM and here it is. Don't you think?

Revelation 21:6 (New International Version)
6He said to me: "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life.

Yes

By the way many biblical scholars now accept that Job was a story and not fact - a story to illustrate a point that faith cannot be destroyed by hardship among other things

Yes because he loves us and gives us what we can handle. If you made most Americans wealthy they would die by 45-50 old.
So I think poverty in this life can be a blessing as well much so if you tend towards pride. God loves you, just follow him and he will determine the outcomes in accordance with his will. Notice how Job behaved before his test. its key

Yes, because " man doesn't live on bread alone but from every utterance that comes from the mouth of Jehovah". There are more to life than the accumulation of material wealth," for what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world but loses his soul?"

Why? do you believe in God only because of what He can give?

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of why Job allowed these trials to happen?

Of course, Job will continue to believe. And so would I.

The story didn't end any other way and it wouldn't have. And I believe in God.

The story of Job is a fascinating story. It's my favorite one in the OT. Whenever you feel your life sucks then read the story of Job for inspiration.
