Basically I am planning to visit the New York area for the first time in the summer, and I will appreciate some advice on how to have the best time while running on a tight budget. Just some details for you: I will be travelling alone from London, staying for a week or so, possibly staying with a friend but no guarantees yet. I am not that interested on shopping, but more interested in visiting interesting places and sights, if possible places off the beaten track. I am 26 years old, male and I'm fine with spartan living(within reason!)

Many Thanks :-)

NY. City is a world full of worlds. Better wander along and find them all just like if it were an Inhabited Island. On sundays you've got Broadway's street market. Beware of your artichoke (purse) in some areas Downtown or Uptown, as you say you gotta few do-re-mi (money) or dough (id). About that, there are nice Bazaars near Central Station, but if you enter them you'd finish
by being fast with your potatoes (dollars) and phonus-bolonus flying oriental carpets are refused at the Airport. Don't get into a phonebooth, 'cause coppers or ojaras (there are sorta 50 ways to design the police) should take you for a dealer, any decent person carries his cellular. Don't fear poorer dumps, New York is not a telefilm scenario. But if you're blackish better don't go into a Country Joint, and if you're Caucasian try not no attend to an 'actual' jazz or blues after-hours or jam session. Don't be afraid of Bronx, they're nice and peaceful people if you don't try to take picks of them as if they were monkeys in the zoo. If you do so, ask before for OK, not after. Don't use too much yellow cabs, the jockeys will ask you where the hell is the street you're asking them to take you at. And if you argue, they say it's impossible to memorize all dumps in a labyrinth like this ******* village. If you have lunch in so-called Jap-Dishes, remember they don't cook the fish, that a fish is like your finger and that pots to season it are pricking like fire. Carry a 'spanglish' vademecum up to date.
But if you walk along the Forties in Manhattan and try to find better way to eat than Jap's, "Pomeranian pooches" are breed of dog. Better a burger or spaghetti in Little Italy. Be always on the proper caper, the right way, denie any "proposition" even if they call you a puppier (coward) and remember that 5th Amendment can be a double-edged knife for best citizens. But it's a question for a travel-paperback. Male as you are, Top Lesses are full of Peggy Joyces, sorta haybags, and in the entry a gorill is ready.
In a general way of speaking, you'll find it hotsy-totsy. Walk, don't run.

i does no longer have hopes severe re: Bin encumbered. You under no circumstances recognize what's going to take position next. yet I truly were to the area the position the international commerce homes were and they are progression new ones yet no longer taller. you are able to examine Trinity Church on Wall street which isn't too a ways of walking distance of the area. there is also the park no longer a ways from the chuch and the park leads you to boat, the position you are able to bypass see Liberty of Statue and Ellis Island yet of direction tickets/boarding passes are required.
