Very simple Nicky, Breast feeding is similar to a drug, a baby uses it for nurishment and consolement, I have a 1 year old son, and he was breast feed also. The best method to do is to "wean" them off. Just decrease the ammount of times you give the child your breast until eventualy they aren't dependent on it any more.

Just stop. You could cut out a feed a day to start with then build it up. Have you started your baby on a cup or bottle. This is also important to help make the transition easier. Your baby can now tolerate high protein milk such as cows milk so replace your breastfeeds with yoghurt, milk or cheese & water. It may take time.

Now is a wonderful time to wean as breast milk is unnecessary. Reduce the number of feedings a day and offer a soft spout sippy cup with milk as an alternative.

Is there a particular reason you have decided to stop? Know that if breastfeeding is still working for baby and you, there is no reason to wean. (Many times moms feel pressured to wean their toddlers by friends and family.)

If weaning is truely what is in your heart, go slowly and gently. Distraction and substitution work well at this age. There is some great information on weaning at the link below.

the baby has been conditioned to breastfeeding.so the best way to stop this is to decondition him.replace the breast milk little by little with something very sweet that he loves so much and you're done. or better still, you can stop him by putting something very bitter like paracetamol around the breast.he will associate the breast with the bitter taste and stop it himself. all the best.

You have to gradually reduce the number of times you breast feed her, give her something else to eat or drink if she's hungry. Hold her often so she won't feel rejected but just don't give it to her as quickly as you used to. she will get tired of insisting for it and sooner or later, she will stop.
