I truly wondered and often doubted that I would ever recover! I was ill with depression/anxiety for 5 years, there just seemed to be no way out. People would often say, 'You'll get there' I used to wonder where on earth 'there' was...I couldn't find it!
Then with lots of professional help and support from friends and family I did get 'there'. There were lots of setbacks and each time I thought, 'here we go again!'
Now I am well, I do have to manage my life and stresses more effectively and look out for little warning signs so I can knock them on the head before they grow, but I now feel 'alive' and happy.
So in answer to your question I think true recovery to the kind of problems you have been dealing does come. I am so pleased that you are on track to getting your life back. Remember though, a small setback is just like tripping over, you do get up, learn and move on.
Best wishes.

Trevor, you can get better and you will get better. Someone or something will come into your life and make you realise that there is a whole new world out there just waiting to be had. It won't be an overnight thing be patient and don't be too hard on yourself....you wont turn into Rambo but you will learn to never let anyone bully you again because you will realise you are stronger than them and you don't need them. You do need people though, we all do but mix with people who make you feel better about yourself, who make you laugh, smile and eventually you will be happy. BUT the old Trevor has gone, a new stronger Trevor will emerge and that's what you need to start building on, maybe give him a new image too. Good Luck and I mean that...YOU WILL DO IT. Even if it's only through positive feedback on here it will help to start with and any negative answers ignore them. Keep us informed.

Yes. It takes time to rebuild a firm foundation of effective and helpful coping strategies, good support networks, life skills that allow for riding out crisis, problem solving, healthy esteem etc. A good counselor will help you with uncovering and healing some of the pain and shame of the past that perhaps shapes your current self and world view. Be very kind and patient with yourself during this journey you are about to embark on. Forgive yourself if you stuff up and know that it usually takes at least two to rebuild a new life. But its worth it!!!! Good luck

Yes a person can recover from mental illness! It is all in your mind! There were times in my life where I thought I would never make it through the bullsh** and I was on medications and all that crap. But it was when a psychologist told me that depression and anxiety is all a mental illness and that we are the ones who control our mind then I had to take a step back and look at myself! One thing that helped me alot is keeping a journal of my thoughts and then going back and reading them and seeing what it was that made me feel that way or do that thing and then I work on that! There are many things that we do have control over that we tend to think we don't! Then doctors get rich telling us we need some drug that actually makes you crazy! Go out and enjoy life and don't think about anybody but yourself! Love yourself for who you are! There is a beautiful person inside you! Find him!

Definitely, you can have a completely different life. One where you are free from symptoms of any sort. I pray you will continue in strength, and hope, finding freedom and confidence to take hold of the things you believe in. I was tragically ill, for years, now
amazingly healed, never been better. All the best, God bless you.

Sure...absolutely,Trevor!
I would like to suggest u the following along with what has been presribed by uor doc:
i)take short term goals,like..each and every day wen u wake up in the morning, write in uor diary what u wanna do on that day..and try to accomplish them accordingly to the best of uor effort! And at the end of the day, check that.
ii)please include within uor schedule some exercise,be it yoga-pranayam or any other form.
iii)Read inspiring biographies, good books on self improvement.u will be aware then, that how small people like u and me has achieved b-i-i-g in their life and filled up their life with joy and fulfillment. For that matter I would suggest u to read"How to stop worrying and start living"-By Del Carnegie.
iv)Find out, what kind of work attracts u most and suits uor educational background as well..If there is a gap, plan accordingly.Since u r in early 20's,there is a lot of time to re-start uor life from begining!and I mean it!
v)try to increase uor no of friends,by friends i mean he/she can be uor carpenter, uor long forgotten school pal who was once close to u,the kid who lives next to u,uor parent, uor pet any one who cares to smile back at u if u smile at them!Try to listen them..u will find that they all have thir own set of sorrows in thier lives which they dont share with everybody.
I personally belive"Life is the best teacher and time is the best healer"!so if u move uor life towards the positive direction(which already u have started)one day those bad nightmares will be gone for ever!
Bye and good luck for uor beautiful journey ahead!

Sure, sounds like you are well on the road to recovery. One of my first cousins did something very similar and he was much older than you. He is happily married now and more "normal" than me. Good for you! Keep it up!
