I want to get one but I have a few question about them?! Are they 100% clean the needles and everything?! How much is the cost for a medium sized tattoo?and of course how bad does it hurt?

Sterility these days is pretty amazing. Medium sized is too general, and even if you were ridiculously specific as to what you want tattoo shops or artists cost vary way too much. For example, I got a Green Bay Packers G about 5 inches wide and 2 or 3 inches long and estimates ranged from $100 to $250. 5"x2.5", can you believe it. As for the pain, it depends on where you get it on your body. Usually, the fleshy areas are less painful; arms, legs, back, chest, etc... The places I have heard to cause pain are places where there isn't much meat(top of feet) or there are a lot of nerve endings(necks, vaginal areas).

As long as you don't have some friend give you a tattoo at their apartment, and you go to a tattoo shop, then yes, they are 100% clean and safe. Check for tattoo shops in your area and look for the best ratings if you want to find the best one to go to. I have a medium-sized tat, and it cost me $120. Of course it is going to hurt, but it really isn't that bad. However, some people take pain better than others. When you go, try talking to the tattoo artist while he or she is working on you, it will help put your mind somewhere else. My first time, the guy was erally cool and we talked the entire time, so it wasn't so bad. But the second time, the guy was really shy and didn't say a word, and so all I could do was focus on the pain, which was horrible. Either way, it only hurts while he is actually doing it, as soon as the needle isn't on your skin (whether he takes a break or he's finished), it doesn't hurt. The tat won't even feel sore unless it is touched or rubbed against. Good luck!

Getting a tattoo at a reputable parlor is very important.

The tattoo artist should and must open a new and clean needle in front of you and should wear gloves etc etc....

Yes it can be painfull and some places more than others. I have two on the back of my neck which I didn't find painfull at all, in fact I loved the feeling.

I have another tattoo on the front of my foot, now that was painful, but it is bearable. Just make sure you are absolutely happy with your design choice. As for the cost, it totally depends on the size and actual design you go with.

Enjoy

do your homework on the place - all needles should be new and all equipment should be autoclaved....all ink caps should be a one time use only deal....they should NOT dump the residual ink back into the container...make sure to go to a reputable place and remember that good tattoos aren't cheap. Go to their studio or website and take a look at their actual work....you want to make sure that lines are clean and straight and that their sketching style is one that you like.

re: a medium sized tattoo, it depends on the artist and what you're getting. I'm getting mine in 2 weeks....it's only about 4-4.5 inches but it's going to cost me $700. Just because of the detail and the particular artist that I'm going to. Many med size tattoos run at about 100-150....just ask the artist that you are looking into.

re: pain....have yet to find that out....but I figure that since this is something that I really want and is something that is really important to me...I'll suck it up....My cousin who's a dr. said that she could prescribe me that cream they use to numb the area for about 30-40 minutes but my tattoo is taking 1.5-2 hours and so I don't really want a pain spike in the middle of my tattoo.

Best of luck and I hope that you choose one that you're going to love...

Cleanliness depends on your artist/studio. Most reputable artists/studios use disposable needles-one set per customer. Everything else is put into an autoclave. Do your research. Go to the studio you are interested in using. Watch them. Is the autoclave within sight? Do you see them use it? Are the artists wearing gloves? Ask questions. Any respectful studio will allow all the questions you have. They know that you are looking out for yourself.
Costs are going to vary. It will depend on what you are getting, where you are getting it, how much detail is in it?
Okay...how bad does it hurt? To me, it feels like a sharp, but over quick burning, almost "bee-stingyish." At best, it's a slight irritation. At worst, a small cuting feeling. It's nowhere near as bad as you're afraid it is.

First off do your research about the place your planning on getting it from. You should walk into the place and it smell like a hospital. It depends on the shop how much a med. tat costs. I've been quoted anywhere from $75-$150. Depends on the detail ie; color, lines, and actual size. Depending on where your getting it will determine how much it hurts and your pain thresh hold. The more sensitive and a less fatty the area it is, it will hurt the most. To me it feels like a constant cat scratch, with a little burning. Still most important of all things is researching the shop !

I just got a my first tatto done yesterday. I decided to get it done on the back of my neck. It was a flower and underneath it was the Japanese symbol for "daughter". It cost me 45 dollars for something about an inch across and 2 inches long. If yours is bigger you could always just call and make an appointment. Make sure it is at a reliable place. Remember, the artist should be friendly and patient. They should open everything new and wear gloves. Their workplace should be clean looking as well. As for the pain, it really isn't anything you can't tolerate. It is like they say, more annoying than anything. Trust me, I am the biggest wimp when it comes to pain. If it is something you really want, go for it :)

All of those questions depend on who you are and where you go. Your pain tolerance determines how bad it hurts, for me the outline about killed me for the first hour and then it went numb. The fill in was a piece of cake. When I went to price mine I went to three different places. First one said $450, 2nd said $400, and the 3rd said $250! Sold!!! But his work was also the best I had seen. You just need to shop around. Mine goes all the way accross my lower back from hip to hip. And yes all the needles are seal in these bags and the artist should not open them until right be fore he stars tattooing you. Good luck!!!

Most places are very clean. If you are concerned - ask them to see their autoclave. This is the machine they use to sterilize their tools.
As far as price - it's up to the artist. It depends on the intricacy of the design, the colors used and the size.
And then the pain - different parts of your body will feel different ammounts of pain. The one on my upper arm didn't hurt at all, i actually almost fell asleep. But the one on my back hurt so bad I cried and had to come back for two more visits to finish it. Good luck - and be warned - their addictive!
