My puppy is 12 weeks old and totally out of control. She jumps, bites, yelps and eats everything in sight. I have tried a firm 'No' whenever she does something she shouldn't, I've tried squirting her with water and I've tried a shaker. Help!

You have to be firm or maybe you have an adhd dog. Some dogs can be REALLY annoying. My Dad gives me long walks and I was neutered, this combination quietened me down. I still jump up when my family visit but they are very firm and I am learning not to do it. Be careful squirting water, if you hit her in the eye you could do serious damage. She's a baby but start now with firmness. Walk her on a lead and make her walk at your pace. She will learn to do as she is told.

She is a puppy and she will learn from you what is acceptable and what is not. You need to learn how to train her to behave the way you want her to. It may be easier for you to take her to a professional trainer if you don't have time to spend with her to train her yourself. Go to the library, read info on the internet and learn as much as you can about the breed type and puppy training and ask your vet for advice. This is time consuming to do yourself. Puppies require much time until they get older. It requires patience and determination from you and your pet will learn through repetition. Be persistent, firm, gentle, and make training fun for her...not scary. If you don't learn how to discipline her, she will end up with bad behaviors later on. Then you'll have an unruly dog around your friends and family. Be certain, if you don't address this issue, it will not get better on it's own. Once you find out all the information you can about training her, put it into action! Good Luck.

Your puppy is going to be hyper and excitable for a long time yet. You can't expect her to be able to control herself properly until she is an adult.
In the meantime, you should keep up your consistant and patient methods as you have been doing. She will learn bit by bit and you will end up with a lovely well behaved pet!
Some general tips:
When she gets too hyper, leaping around etc - ignore her. She is doing it to get your attention. When she is quiet and lying still, give her quiet praise. This will teach her to be a calm dog rather than an overexcited one.
When she bites - say NO! and stop playing with her. Don't play rough physical games with her - it makes her over excited and encourages biting. Use toys instead when you play with her - like tug togs and balls etc. Then she will learn to focus all that energy on the toys instead of you.
Don't leave food lying around. She will steal it. It takes months before you can really trust her not to help herself - its just too tempting.
View her as you would a human child - you put a lot of discipline, affection and guidance in so that they are lovely adults. You have to wait for them to get through the teenage stage before you can see the benefits of all your hard work - but it is worth it!

This is normal puppy behaviour and persuavance is the key to getting the behaviour you want.Pups are always boistrous and wanting to play, with the nipping try letting out a high pitched yelp as her litter mates would have done this and it ends play as the pup knows shes hurting you.Jumping up is solved by training, every time your pup jumps up gently push her paws back on to the floor and say no,im afraid none of puppy behaviours are solved over night, its part of the joys of owning a pup and teaching it manners.Good luck

Take her to puppy training classes; some pups are more exciteable than others so even if you've raised a pup before it can come as a bit of a surprise!
Not only will your pup learn better behaviour but you will learn new handling techniques, its well worth the time and effort. Go 2 or 3 times a week if you can find one near you, you can't overdo it at that age.
And stop trying lots of different things, try to stick to a daily routine and act calm yourself. If she sees you getting excited it will add to her excitement!

Your dog is still a puppy, keep up with the routine training that you've done so far and be very consistent in your punishment. You might also want to question whether or not she is the right dog for you.

make sure you have enough tasty dog chews for her to chew on, they tend not to chew on your things, if she does something she is not supposed to do seperate her from you and from the rest of your familly, every time she jumps up put her feet back on the floor telling her no and then ignore her, water will be seen as a game, as for biting, everytime she bites you tell her no and seperate her, she will see biting as a game. if you play with her and she bites you tell her gently, she will soon learn that if she does something she isnt supposed to she will be seperated from her pack and will learn, but above all never hit your puppy, she is testing you to see who is boss, you have to show her that you are, i have never taken any of my dogs to training classes and believe that they are only to train the owner, i have 3 german shepherds all that put dogs that have attended classes to shame. my youngest is 4 months old and she is very well behaved although does try to push her luck some times,, i seperate her from her pack for about 15 mins and she calms down, it sounds like your puppy is very highly strung, you need to make sure she has lots of things (toys) of her own that she can play with, remember she is a baby, she will only know what you have taught her and what you teach her.

Ive major behavioural issues with my much loved dogs, however,as a puppy loves adoration and praise, perhaps rewards when she does well, and I find a rolled up newspaper, banged on floor helps to deter some bad habits.Good luck
