Like Hanibal Lecter? Yeah, we've got a cat that does that. No idea why, but cats are just a bit odd. Ours also does it if you cough, sneeze or sniff... he's six years old and always done it, so I guess it's nothing to worry about, other than people thinking you've got an odd cat.

My cats do this, it's like a chattering noise. They seem to do it when they get excited and it seems to take very little to get our feline friends excited (oh to be a cat!). My three do it when they see a bird, a spider, a mouse, the fish in the tank (had to buy a lid to keep the fish safe!) and strangely enough Rosie, my youngest cat, does it when snooker or golf comes on the tv, she loves to try and catch the balls!!!!

My cat does exactly the same. I don't know why ( I assume it is about the instinct to hunt them). My cat does this weird head shake too. I am usually completely unable to get her attention either! Some birds will cause more reaction than others. She gets VERY excited about pigeons and seagulls.
I just chuckle to myself and when they fly off she's back to normal!

All cats do this, it's just their way of expressing excitement and their hunting instincts. They're having an adrenaline rush. Some cats also vocalize when they do this, like a little high-pitched "ah, ah, ah" sound. Nothing to worry about, and it's cute and funny!

my two cats will look out the window at birds etc, they dont make a noise, but it looks like their teeth are chattering! I think it is a hunting thing.

That's normal. I don't know what purpose the sound serves, but all five of our cats do it. We have bird feeders right outside our window, and they love to watch.

My cats do it too!! Not sure of the psychology behind it, but I imagine they're trying to "charm" the birds closer...
My cats do it with flies and ants too... anything that's prey really.
I find it d@mn cute!!

It's your cats showing their excitement. They see the birds as prey and want to hunt.

They're probably just mimicking the bird sounds. Don't worry, it is very normal among young cats...

Cats "chatter" when they get overexcited and frustrated when they can't get to something (particularly something they want to hunt!). This is totally natural but quite entertaining!
