Religion is that which leads towards God. Religion derives from the word religare - to rejoin which is called as Yoga in India.

That which unites us to our source (which is called God in religious terms) is only religion. And all those who teach towards the same are religious preachers worthy to be followed.

All great religions and religious leaders still takes us towards Godhood only. They do not see differences but unites them all. We have many examples of living masters from India like Sri Ramakrishna, Swami Vivekananda, Swami Chinmayananda, Mata Amritanandamayi, Sri Sri Ravishankar and so on.

Similarly were Zen / Sufi masters, Jesus, Prophet, AdiSankara, Buddha and many others.

Let us follow those who we see as religious masters who take us towards God and they can surely transform our lives (is my opinion).

Definitions of 'religion' (rĭ-lĭjən) - 4 definitions - The American Heritage® Dictionary

religion (n.) Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe.
religion (n.) The life or condition of a person in a religious order.
religion (n.) A set of beliefs, values, and practices based on the teachings of a spiritual leader

Religion does not lead towards God. Religion is simply a gathering of people that have chosen "sides" on matters of sprirtual nature and all believe the relativesame way. You can be religious about attending the card game on Friday nights. You can religiously be an athiest (and they THINK they aren't religious, they congregate and are like minded (with one another). They just don't believe main stream).

Religion is kind of like an alliance with other similarly thinking people. Religion is why there are so many different Churches. When people ask " What Church you go to?" They're really asking , "What religion or alliance are you".

Of course we know about all the bad press the Muslims get for their erratic behavior. Some of the "religious" zealots have taken their interpretation of their alliance/like mindedness and have perverted the fundamental basis of their belief.

The KKK was a religious organization, but was it Christian? no

I have seen no where in my Bible where I am supposed to punish/kill/terrorize or whatever anyone that is not like me or follow my principals. Some of them perverted the underlying theme and twisted it to their own lusts/perjudices for other likeminded individuals.

The only thing that will lead toward God is the desire in your heart for that relationship. If you have this, you will find the way. If you were invited to the hottest party of the year, but your directions were half missing, would you not go because you don't have complete instructions? Nope. You would ask, research, dig a little, and you would be there! This is how you get close to God.

"Religion" or churches open the door, how far you go is up to you. You don't actually have to attend a church to accomplish this, but you will grow with "like minded individuals" to lead and teach you.

NO, religion does not lead towards God, satanism is a religion, they openly hate God,
To me at least atheism is a religion, Muslim(don't know the right word)ism? is a religion, they don't serve God.
Religion is a man made institiute used by others to pursue a certain set of beliefs, God leads to God (too long to explain here)

NO. I do not believe so. I believe man created religion, and religion separates lovers, families and Nations.
You can find a sense of spirituality without religion. I like the Unitarian churches, which are not religious, but encourage people of all faiths (even atheists) to find a sense of fellowship and spirituality. I am not religious - I used to be Christian, but my search for the Divine is stronger than it ever was when I thought I was a "chosen one". Peace.

Religion is nothing, vapor. Jesus is all.
And Jesus is asking you today, Who do you say that I am?
That’s the main question,-------- the one which will determine your eternal soul’s destination.

You know, He was not a good man or a teacher as many grudgingly speak of Him.
He was one of three things.
1.He was a lunatic, a madman, suffering from delusions of grandeur; or
2.He was a liar, a deceiver trying to pass himself off as something he was not, or,
3.He is Lord of all Life, and He holds all Life in His hands now and forever.
There are no other possibilities—Because He made His three great claims: “I am God, I will raise the dead, and I will be the final judge.”
Accept Jesus as Saviour, or suffer the consequences of sin forever.

Faith leads to God. Religion leads to questions.

Yes but partly no.

All religions are not perfect....not perfect enough to lead us toward God but there is one thing you can rely on if you want to reach God.

Believe and accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour.....as simple as it is said but it takes spiritual willingness to really mean it.

Religion is a learning tool to help you when needed. It all depends on how you use what you learn from Religion. Just going to school doesnt guarantee you an education.

?

I think you need to be a little more specific. Buddhism for example does not rely on a belief in God.
