Steamer....
Consists of an upper pot with a mesh or perforated bottom that fits into a larger pot, which holds water or other liquid. Stackable bamboo or metal steamers that hold two or three layers of food can be placed over a skillet or saucepan.
For small amounts of food, use a metal, collapsible steamer that fits inside a large or medium saucepan.
Plastic, collapsible steamers are available for use in a microwave oven.

Hope this info can help you......_;-)

Good luck!

Surely the metal would be safer than plastic, we have enough of that plastic seeping into our bodies as it is. Best of all, I think, would be the bamboo baskets the orientals sometimes use. Search sites such as allrecipes.com for recipes.

I'm about to toss my plastic one because it has too many areas for germs to breed in and is not dishwasher safe... I'm going with metal for sanitation reasons.
