I want to start eating protein bars because I heard they are good for weight loss(i.e. speeding up the metabolism) but on the other hand, Ive heard that protein makes you gain weight as well. Any advice?

Protein bars make you feel fuller on less food and less hungry for longer because it takes a while to digest. You should use them as a supplement to your normal diet, not just eat those all the time, of course. For example, eat one with a light lunch, OR as an afternoon snack. Always eat a balanced breakfast if you can.

As far as the gaining weight, protein in excess does that. Whatever the body doesnt use as energy it turns to fat-- so ANYTHING in excess will do that to you.

I think the reason that people think protein bars are so good is because you need protein to create muscle, so people think that if they are trying to get more muscles and working out, they need more protein. But it's really not true. You really don't need as much protein as people think, only about 40 grams a day, I think. So I avoid anything that is trying to give you tons of protein, because it's based around a myth.
