Well i would say it is seeing the people around you get old, and some of them dieing.. But actually aging is not that bad, it has not brother me yet, and i really don't sit around and think about dying, i guess when you are young you may , cause you hear people talk about it all of the time, then you see a grandparent, or a friend that has died, and it really bothers you. That is normal, it is when you think about it all the time that it really gets to become a fear, and when you are always hearing about it, that don't help neither. You should proably go and see someone and talk to them about it, and they can help you with this fear that you have. It can be a healthy fear, but it can become an un healthy fear too.

I think that's a pretty natural fear. The cause of it is pretty obvious, we don't want to die, because we want to keep on living. Death in an individual sense and death in a civilisation sense are probably quite close.
To try to be less fearful? Concentrate on life as it comes, you will also feel just as much as a child when you are 80 than you are now. I also think death isn;t that scary, it's more like a dream when it happens.

i think most people are afraid of HOW they are going to die ..

If you told me i was going to pass away in my sleep when I am aged 89, without any pain or suffering ... i think i would see no reason to fear death ...

it is the uncertainty of HOW that scares me

and as for aging .. ever since i was about 17 .. I have longed to be an old crotchety lady with a walking stick that I will poke and whack people with if they annoy me...

(disclaimer NOT ALL old people are crotchetty .. that's just what I want to be )

it's a manifestation of the two most primal fears of human beings... fear of loss of independance and ability to take care of yourself... and especially fear of the unknown.
