How do I curb this habit?

I love to create, make, and change our social structure. Yet, this ambition causes me to have sleeping problems sometimes. How do I stop doing this irrationally?

So really, I love to add to our society and this drives me. But my large sense of purpose, ambition, and motivation makes it harder for me to "come down" sometimes and just relax to fall asleep. Nevermind though, it sounds easy enough.

i had those nights too... well i guess youre not tired enough to go to sleep. thats why you get to think a lot of things. what youre thinking is good, but try to start in little ways and move forward..
it feels good that you go to bed so tired already because you did a lot of stuff. no more thinking just sleep..

Our bodies all have built in clocks. Some of us are just night people by nature. Some people can get by with less sleep than others...sometimes my mind races so much I stay awake for 48 hours before sleeping. As others have suggested, keeping a pad and pen at your bedside is a good way to put your thoughts down so you won't forget them later. Others keep tape recorders so they can record their thoughts as they come to them. However, that may help to some degree, but not everyone can just shut off their thoughts even by writing them down. You can try making sure you drink nothing with caffeine for at least 6 hours before you go to sleep...I don't drink caffeine at all, and I still sleep roughly only 2-3 hours a night. Unless it becomes a problem that is interfering with the rest of your life, it may simply be a phase you are going through, and when your body has had enough, it will most certainly let you know. Persons who work swing shifts, or differ their work shifts every few weeks or months often finding themself having difficulty sleeping. Take time to review what is going on in your life, and see if there is something different, or new, that may be sending your mind racing more than usual. If so, you may not be able to change it immediately, but at least you'll understand what is causing your difficulty in sleeping. You didn't mention your age, but in my mid-20's, between a husband, 2 children, a full time job, and college, I often fell asleep with a book on my chest while reading in bed. I functioned very well with only four hours sleep per night. So unless the lack of sleep is detrimental to your body or other important demands on your life, I would simply try to reason out the basis for it, and not get overy worried unless it starts to cause problems - physical, social, or such.

Some of the best minds were nighthawks.... had to be or they would have been persecuted in their day jobs!

However, I know how it is to be sleep-deprived... your wonderful midnight ideas just don't get to see daylight!

I would suggest that you might want to talk to a Benziger "thinking styles" tester to see if perhaps you could be using this wonderful gift of yours fulltime in your real work.... to get some ideas of what you could be doing so the rest of us can benefit from your natural gifts and passions....I'm not sure what you do right now as a job, but maybe there is something much more suited to you... or maybe you need to go back to university into political science or anthropology or something.... if you were doing this thinking during the daytime hours you might sleep better at night...there would be balance and "flow" in your life. I am very similar, the mind does not want to slow down does it? I curb this habit by writing down on a pad of paper all of my thoughts about 30minutes before going to bed. Then, they are out of my head and on paper, ready to pick up for the next day.
I then meditate when I lay down, concentrating on my breathing in and out...nothing else, then, I fall asleep :)

yes i think a lot of people have problems how adays sleeping just cause of what you are talking about. You need to un wine at night, before going to bed, do some relaxtion , or listen to some mellow music, read a bit, you need to learn to relax before you go to bed, to empty your mind, cause there is still tomorrow to work on the things that are keeping you awake all night.

sounds like you are a night person. what you may have to do is compromise. Give yourself a certain amount of time before bed time, and then relax an hour to calm down. Hopefully, that should help

Have your nightly goodnight rutual, placed him in mattress and tell him good evening, you're dozing on your huge mattress this evening, then walk out. Then even as he receives away from mattress, placed him back in mattress, and tell him goodnight, and walk out. If he receives up back then only placed him back in mattress with out a observe, then walk out. it truly is rather demanding and also you gained't get any sleep for a pair nights, yet carry on! We did this with my step sister's son and it worked after 2 nights. He under no circumstances receives away from mattress anymore! the secret's no longer to bribe him, no longer to enable him watch television in mattress (its too a lot stimulation for his lil concepts) , and to substantiate he's customary with that it is how that's going to be and he has to do it. it is going to artwork, only dangle in there! and that i honestly does no longer lock your door... that is an excellent safe practices threat for a small baby being locked on the different aspect from the grownup.

I am exactly like this!! lol it's annoying because my brain will suddenly wake up! Usually I just have to force myself to get into bed.
One option is having a diary next to your bed so you can write stuff down so you don't forget it.

Another good idea I find helpful is to imagine all your thoughts and take them in one big pile and put them into a box, lock the box with a key that says "closed for sleep). hey it works for me :P
