Im flying with china airlines in 2 days and my dad asked who im flying with and when i told him he was shocked.now this isnt in anyway meant to b racist but he said theyre one of the worst airlines to fly with and their safety record isnt that great.he also said u r allowed to smoke onboard.im really worried now.he said theres a reason my ticket was so cheap and its not coz they wanted to b charitable.that its not as good as qantas and other reputable airlines.so please, if anyone has flown with them can they tell me their experiences.was it good or bad? do they smoke onboard? how was the food? thankyou for info u can give me.

Go to Skytrax, www.airlineequality.com, it's the largest consumer participation website with regards to airline rankings and quality. There are only five airlines that get a 5 star rating, and China Airlines gets a 4 star rating. It's true that
China Airlines did have their share of safety issues, but they seem to have resolved them and haven't had an incident in many years. China Airlines is a Taiwan based carrier, not to be confused with Air China (Mainland China based), I recently flew China Airlines and was quite pleased with the service as well as the food, and no, smoking is not allowed. I'Ve traveled to Asia more than 40 times in the last 6 years, and although I don't consider China Airlines to be as good as Cathay Pacific or Singapore Airlines, it is a VERY GOOD airline.

I have flown several times with them. You can tell your father his information is not correct.

Smoking is not allowed and basically all rules you'll find on other airlines apply here as well. The food was good (Asian style - noodles or rice), the service onboard is friendly and their English is good enough, most of the time not great but it is understandable. The safety videos are English subtitled so that shouldn't be a problem.

Really no need to worry, they are safe. I used them to fly from Amsterdam to Beijing and for several flights within China.

Check their webpage if you need more info: http://www.china-airlines.com

i think the info your dad has iis based on the fact that a long, long time ago they were reprimanded by the faa re their maintennance and mechanical problems but since then they have improved a lot and in fact they are now allowed to fly to mainland us of a and that a great tribute to them, like most airlines that go to the us they don't allow smoking and their service is good, not as comparable with singapore or cathay airlines but sure is comparable with any other us airlines and sometime its a lot more courteous and respectful and enjoyable. all their crew are also us trained and their is no language barrier because they all speak english.

Your dad doesn't know what he is talking about. It's been a long time since one of their planes crashed, and you are not allowed to smoke on board. I am a frequent flyer on China Airlines, and have had a number of flights between Taiwan and USA or Taiwan and Europe.

The food is good, and you usually get a choice between Chinese and continental styles.

For your information, the chief pilots are usually foreigners.

It's different...but depending on where you are flying from and to ..the service varies...it won't be like a North american service...but their flights fly everyday with no problem.
