I love the honesty...but i'm kinda disappointed...where are all those who might have said.."de-claw"? And please..believe me..i appreciate the honest answers...but I guess, right now..I'm in a sarcastic mood and that's the FIRST answer I'd have given...(but I'd have added any of those answers I've seen to give pertinent information)......hehe Too many RIGHT answers to vote on a best answer..hehe

I just posted this on another question...So I'm going to repost it here. *this goes with what someone else just said*

Honestly, the best solution to this is to NOT get it done. I didn't even know the service was still offered. I have known several people to have this done, and their cats have NEVER been the same again! It depresses them and, not to mention, they gain weight in some cases because they have to desire to run around and play. They are not as loving either.

If the claws are an issue, I suggest you check into 'Soft Claws'. They are simply amazing and very inexpensive. $19.99 I believe for a set. You only change them every three months.

You can get them at your local PetSmart or Pet Co.

GOOD LUCK! :)

(From PetSmart)

"Soft Claws keep your cat's claws from scratching and damaging furniture, curtains, carpets and more. Easy to apply - just trim cat's claws per directions included, then glue (glue included) the tips on.
Soft Claws do not interfere with natural claw extension and retraction. One application will last approximately three months. Kit includes four applications plus detailed instructions.

Choose Soft Claws size based on the weight of your cat in pounds. Each package contains 40 nail caps and two tubes of adhesive."

Please think long and hard before getting your kitty declawed. Please?

I agree that declawing is not the answer. Trimming the cats claws twice a month can help, but you might want to try a product called "Soft Paws" (or Soft Claws) I can't remember which.

They are soft plastic tips that you glue onto your kitty's claws. Ask your vet for more info. Just a warning: It is a two person job. One to hold the angry kitty and the other one to do the gluing. But they last for six to eight weeks and will save your furniture and skin.

However, they don't work that well if your cat stays mostly outdoors.

Those who MIGHT have said "de-claw" are not responding because they're tired of getting reported simply for having a different opinion than those who oppose de-clawing. Reporting someone for rude behavior is fine; reporting someone because they disagree with you is simply childish.

It's not a difference of opinion on declawing - it's knowing the facts and not agreeing with mutilating an animal.

De clawing is mean!!!!!!!!!!
In australia is illegal and so it should be.
we had 2 cats in the surgery that had been declawed and I felt soooo sorry for them as they were trying to play with toy mice and couldn't pick them up and want to scratch at scratching poles and couldn't.
