Today, at exactly 3:11 pm Eastern time, the House of Representatives passed legislation that expands federal funding for embryonic stem cell research. This is an integral first step towards providing hope and cures to the millions of Americans suffering from diseases like diabetes, Parkinson's, and Alzheimer's.

Now the bill goes to the Senate, where it is expected to pass by an even wider - veto proof - margin.

I guess that all depends on whether we've got the votes to override a veto. More than a few Republicans would have to be on board.

1) the embryonic research does not yet know if it can help those diseases.
2) It will not likely pass by a wide enough margine in the Senate to escape veto.

Sorry to be a party pooper, those are the facts.

I hope it does get passed. My grandmother died from alzheimers, and it was a slow and horrible death. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I hope that with stem cell research they can find a cure.

I'm sure he will try, that is, until he is diagnosed with a disease like that and needs the results of stem cell research to extend his life.

That's awsome! I just can't wait until we start cloning people for organ transplants. Until then we still have Chinese death row inmates. Thank God we have wealth.
