I've avoided getting seriously ill for most of 2006, and now within the last 3 days a cold has kicked in. Anyone know of any fast acting relief of symptoms (cough, sneezing, congestion...)

You MUST take airborn! Some people don't think it works but it always helps me and my hubby, and take some emergen-c for about a week.

Best thing is the simplest: get lots of rest. Avoid stress or staying up late. Eat well, and stay away from others because (I've heard) you're most contagious when a cold is just starting.

Some extra Vitamin C / orange juice won't hurt (though I'm not positive it's been proven to help either)

[edit] - sorry, totally missed the "fast-acting" part there. Rest isn't very fast acting. ;) Acetominaphen(sp?) is, especially Tylenol Cold which contains something for your stuffy nose.

Also, I haven't heard of any studies that show Echinacea working, and on packages it usually says to take it before you show any symptoms of a cold at all (like maybe when your roommate gets sick).

Zinc Lozenges are awesome if taken around the first signs of the cold. Another good thing is to eat fresh garlic cloves. I microwave one for about 11 seconds with the skin on. Then the skin pops right off. Chop it up very fine and put it on a little toast and it's edible that way. Also load up on Vitamin C, of course. :) Get well soon! x

Echinacea, but you need to ask at the health food store how much you can take because it's more than what is stated on the bottle. Also, Zinc and Vitamin C in higher doses. Again, ask your health food store to make a recommendation. TONS of water too. Airborne helps to an extent. It's more for before you get sick. Best wishes to you!

unfortunately, once you've got a cold there isnt much you can do to cure it...but for relief of your specific symptoms you can try some cold products available. ask your pharmacist to find one that'll match your exact symptoms and other things (ie: you might want something that'll help you sleep at night too)
dont forget lots of bed rest and fluids!

next time you feel like a cold is "coming on", you feel a little down and have a sore throat...etc...take some korean ginseng tablets. ginseng is a natural immune stimulant and wil help you boost your immune system. it works best to prevent colds not to treat them though. don't be fooled by siberian ginseng or american ginseng, they're slightly different and are not as effective. ask your pharmacist to pick it out for u. watch out if you have high blood pressure or diabetes

ZINC & Vitamin C Works For Me When I Feel It Coming On.
Tylenol cold relief is really good for me also.
But every one is different.
Did you know that a cold is contagious 10 days before the infected person is having or showing the symptoms.
Good Luck feel better!!!!!!!!!
