I have shoulder length brown hair that is VERY fine. I was thinking of getting a body perm but am not really sure what it looks like. How much damage would it cause my hair and would it help it to not be so flat and thin looking????? Pictures would be GREAT if anyone has any.

THANKS!!

I suggest that you check out a very talented stylist and by all means get it done professionally. Be sure that they use a larger rod size and do a body wave. The larger the rod size the softer the curl. Hair expands on the rod when chemicals are put on your hair so none of them should feel tight or they could snap. The stylist should immediately begin checking your hair for the curl pattern...this could happen in just a minute or two, even though the directions may say 15/20 minutes, that would be too long for you. Thin hair processes faster. Be sure the thio is rinsed for the full 5 minutes and gently blotted dry. If possible, do not have your hair neutralized, leave the rods in for twenty four hours and air neutralize. Better yet, avoid perming all together.

My first perm on my thin, long and layered hair was rolled with tight rollers and the woman didn't put the little plastic hairpins underneath each curler as she did a "piggyback" rolling of my hair which was stacking the curlers on top of one another because of my layers. When it was done my widows peak was as if someone shaved my hair off there, it completely broke off and the curlers left grooves all across the top of my head where they had sat because she did not use the pins to hold them up off my scalp. When my hair grew out a little, I looked like Alfalfa from "Our Gang" except the hair sticking up was in the front instead of the back! I cried, I hated it, but after about two weeks I had more body, but I felt my hair was fried and I hated the breakage it caused too. Perms are very damaging, especially to fine, thin hair.

A perm might work for you but it must be done with very large rods to give you more texture. Just remember any pics of hair with body in a magazine or on TV are usually the product of hours of styling. Keep in mind if your hair is colored the perm can cause color to fade and some brands of color and highlights do not mix with certain types of chemicals so if not done properly you could end up with alot of breakage or damage to the hair. I do and occasional body wave on certain clients but I inform them of everything above first.

You did'nt say wether your hair was all one length or not...if you are just wanting a change maybe get some foiling put in....which are highlights...and get your hair cut with some layers...long layers not real short ones, this may work out better for you than a perm.

i think perms are a bad idea---i got one last year for the first time ever, and it didnt work right & it fried my hair so bad i had to chop my hair short to fix it -my hair is brown and very fine too--if you just want i different style, go talk to a realREALreal stylist..if you do not know of a good one ask someone you know that has good hair for their stylists name and number-most women love to share that info

Just get a perm underneath...leave to whole top layer out...use large rods ...if you hair is all one length......if you want it to be thicker or have more body use shampoos with polymers or that fortify...or have a professional gloss treatment make hair feel and look thicker....................ask a hairstylist

My hair is like yours and i got a perm last year and it looked horrible because the person used tight rods, but use looser rods and it will look good

I have very wispy hair. Not lots of lit. and i have had perms. They do nothing make the hair thicker or anything. All it did was curl it.

Perms damage your hair no matter what.
