My boyfriend is 18 and i am 16......when we talk on the phone we are both silent....there isn't ever anything to talk about on the phone

That's a red flag. It means you don't have anything in common and your both not really interested in eachother to even talk or share what's going on your lives.

Some people don't feel comfortable on the phone. Everyone is different and I don't think there's any need to change that. You say you're silent too. Are you calling each other after spending time together during the day? If so, maybe you simply have nothing left to talk about. Try not speaking on the phone to each other, or just leaving it to a quick call to say good night. Then you can find other things to do with your time and you'll have something to talk about when you next meet.

Having absolutely nothing to talk about on the phone isn't such a good start to a relationship. If you've been together a while then this is a no hope relationship! Communication is key and if you struggle to find subject matter for your conversations then there isn't any point!

Change your boyfriend or wait patiently for a few years, I speak on average two hours each night on the phone to my girlfriend and there is always plenty of interesting things to talk about. The trouble is most eighteen years olds have very little life experience and they are often very poor when it comes to communication skills. Many eighteen years old lads have very little between the ears.

Some people just don't communicate well on the phone. I have some friends who don't talk well on the phone, and are much better face to face.
I think you can't change that. I think you need to accept the fact that he is not a phone person, and just use the phone to make plans with him. Have long conversations when you see him.

me and my fiance have been together for 9 months and we are the same way we dont talk about much on the phone. but in person we never stop some people just dont talk on the phone good.

Call alot less, i'm guessing you call a few times a day? if you do just call once a day if not every second day then you may have a few things to talk about.

Some guys are like this... either they're not a big talker or they just have nothing to talk about... as long as he talks to you about important stuffs otherwise dont worry too much about it, or you can talk to him instead, he could be a good listener. Most guys are not good at expressing themselves, give him time to be more comfortable with you. When guys needs to talk to you they will. You really can't push them.
