I can't seem to find anywhere how much it actually costs. I realize all the different steps that have to be taken, but how much do they actually cost? I've taken the lessons, so I'm ready, and there doesn't seem to be anywhere to tell me what the tests cost. I know they aren't free!

If you go to the Direct Gov website it has a section on motoring and explains what is required for the tests and it has links to the Driving Standards Agency (who do the tests and have full information on their costs and how to book them) and the DVLA (where you will get your provisional and full driving licence from).

There is a set price for getting your provisional licence (£38, as i remember) and then you have to pay for the theory test and the practical test. However when you are sitting for the practical test you can use your own car or use your instructors car. If you use the instructors car he may charge you a fee for using the car on the day, so it is worth while enquiring with a few driving instructors on the cost of their lessons and the use of their car on a test.

Good luck
