I've gone through this twice b4. Once was in my 21 Days Camp, we're not allowed to use hand phone or communicate with the family, so I bought my family photo. I will see them whenever I felt to.
If you are one a business trip, try communicating with them on the WebCam through Yahoo Messenger... It works pretty well!

Cook a meal that mama used to make. Or eat foods that's indicative of your hometown. Takes you right home without having to go out of your way.
I'm from another country. When I'm homesick, I go to my favorite restaurant that's closest to the cuisine I grew up with. *sniff* *sniff*

Keep in touch with the help of a computer- with live cam is best. If your family doesn't have a computer, then they can always go to an internet cafe. That's how we did it. I went to an internet cafe when I was away overseas, because we have a computer at home.

buy a webcam, its easy to use and its like real. if you think it is expensive, try to go ebay or kijiji to buy an used one, theres nth wrong with those anyways. Or keep email and use msn voice messenger
