The names I picked seem retarded *winifred and mave, both symbolic* and my dad, namer of ever animal to come into my life, picked an even worse name *michu, pronounced like a scottsman talking about his shoe* and what I've been reffering to her as just doesn't fit a papillon at all. Serious, can you see a gorgeous tri-color pap coming to the call of "Here Booboo, come here Booboo?" Neither can I. Works fine now, but here in 6months it just won't fit, and I need something to put on her tag NOW.

I want something kinda themed, but not blatantly. That means a French or Spanish name, and I have a thing for unisex names. Thanks for any suggestions, and I swear I'm not a mindless dribble of a person that can't even come up with a name. I just come off that way occasionally.

There is a website called Babelfish that translates English words into the language that you want to name your papillon. Also, there is a great book and movie called "Papillon" that you could use to name your pup after the author or the actors.

I had a dog named Casa Perro....It is Spanish for "house dog". So you could go along those lines, example..."My Dog" is "mon chien" in French. Have some fun!

Good luck. I have included the website you need for translating.

Good luck!

Here are some French names which are more or less unisex--the spelling differs from the male versions, but the pronunciation is pretty close. Some of them lend themselves to cute nicknames, which I've placed in parentheses.

Andrée, Danielle (Dani), Denise, Françoise (Frankie), Frédérique (Freddie), Julienne (Julie), Lucienne (Lucy), Michèle, Pascale, Renée, Sébastienne (Sébi), Simone, Vivienne (Vivi), Yvonne

I hope that helps! :)

I wasn't sure exactly what a papillon was until I looked up images of one. The first thing I thought of (because of it's ears) was butterflies.

Maybe you could try something to do with butterflies. Like Monarch or something.

Hopefully that will give you some ideas.

Papillons are the "Butterfly" dogs because of their ears. Why not name your dog the French or Spanish equivilant of Butterfly?
I have 2 Skipperkees. The oldest already had a name when we adopted her from the Seattle Breed Club 11 years ago (Coco). Our second, we purchased from a friend as a puppy a year and a half ago and named her Shadow. And it's the perfect name. She shadows Coco everywhere.
Hope this helps and good luck.

Spanish Female dog, Duquesa or Dutches in English; Duquesa is three easy syllables that sound strong in the first two syllables. Duquesa also has a formality about it, but that solid title gives way to the Femininity easily. Sets up an interesting strength with femininity.
Male Dog in Spanish, Oso or Bear in English. Oso is two easy syllables. Oso is also strong in sound and a Bear is strong in symbol, but a small dog or a big dog both are well named with this simple good sounding name.

In dad's defense, Michu is not a bad dog's name. This because it has two vowel sounds in it that can be said loudly, clearly, and sharply to aid in training and controlling your pet. My two dogs are Rex and Bling, both strong vowel sounds. Winifred and Mave have weak vowel sounds that would be harder to use effectively.

If you want a Spanish name, you may go like I did with Rex and go for royalty. Rey (king) for a boy, Reina (queen) for a girl. Both have good vowel sounds.

Have fun.

Wow. I looked up pictures of a Papillon, and those dogs are all ears! Very cute though. I don't know, my partner and I just bounced names off each other until one stuck.

What is Spanish for ears? Oreja? Oido?

What about j'adore (pronounced like ja-door) which means "I love" in French? It isn't really unisex, but I think that it is kind of cute. You could also try Brie (a French cheese), or Amie (pronounced a-me, and means friend in French).

The website listed has many French names and their meanings.
