Why can't I get a video picture on my DVD player?

My cable-ready TV suddenly stopped playing video when I switch to DVD. It played fine and then suddenly stopped. I still get sound of the DVD and have checked the cables, and they are fine. I get a picture with TV cable input but not the dvd player video.

Perhaps you switched your DVD player to progressive mode and your TV does not support it.
Connect the DVD to the TV via composite (yellow cable) and check if you get a picture.
