Just try to expose him/her to as many good things as possible. Eventually he/she will realize that nothing bad is going to happen to them and that will make both of you happier ^_^. Raising any animal takes ALOT of patience so dont be frustrated if it doesnt seem to be working out at first. Just keep loving your cat and slowly introduce it to new things until it's comfortable with them.

If it is just a kitten then it being around people and other noises and thigs will make him get used to it and it'll be a better adult for it. My cat grew up with my horrible roomates and they tortured him, but believe it or not, he is an awesome kitten and loves attention. We had a lot of people and our house wa kind of a party house though so all the people helped. If the kitten is too young than you want to ease him into it because if you start handling him way too ealry then he will be skiddish.

There is also the nature thing. Some cats had wild parents and it takes many breedings(generations) to get the wild out of animals. If you found a litter of kittens outside in the bushes there is a good chance they will be a lot more active and crazy than a cat who comes from a long line of house cats.

Good luck and be patient.

A tennis ball is very bit for a kitten so no wonder they would be afraid of it, imagine if a giant ball much bigger than you was coming towards you, you would be scared too. Probably the same thing with the dogs & cats, they are bigger than him and presumably he doesn't know them so is afraid. Has he had something happen to him in the past that has made him a nervous cat? Search the internet for what animal behavourists say about timid cats or get a book, or ask your vet for advice.

more hand holding, hugging, attention galore.

to make a cat into a "normal cat" they need a lot of attention and love and handling by humans while they are kittens. otherwise they end up as those cats you never see but hear growling from under someones bed.

start off with a wad of paper or a milk jug cap ring over a tennis ball. even a tennis ball to a full grown cat is kinda much. full grown cat plays with items the size of a mouse or smaller.

Is he an indoor cat?

My cat is an indoor cat and is afraid of A LOT. She used to run and hide for hours when strangers came in the house - even my friends who had been over before. I would bring her out on a leash and have to bring her back in because she was so afraid. A lot of times, kittens can be afraid because they just aren't familiar with things. Indoor cats take more time to get to know about the world.

But bring him out on a leash and let him experience things. Let people near him . .even if he's nervous . .try to hold him. He just needs to get a little older :)

ALSO: About the car, you might want to bring him out a lot in his carrier so he doesn't only associate it with the vet (which is what most cats do). It will make car trips a lot less stressful if they're to the vet, a family member's house, or even moving (which doesn't need to be any more stressful). goodluck!
