This is not even a joke. I met a guy on MySpace and we talked and from his pics he looked cute and I was liking his personality and he kept saying things like "my ex girlfriend said I look better on myspace" and "I should ask you out now so when we meet you can't just leave" and "are you sure you won't be disappointed? what if i look different in real life". Obviously I declined to be his gf before even meeting him (to get to know him better) so he went to my school to visit and let's just put it this way: people do look better on myspace. All of my friends were nearby watching us to be safe and they all laughed and agreed he's definitely not attractive >_<. So now I'm stuck with the task (I know, I'm a horrible person) of not leading him on (I'm sorry, he is just not at all my type in person). Is this normal? What's the nicest and easiest way to kindly decline any further meetings and not lead him on? It'll be the last time I ever risk meeting someone from online, of course. =|

I think you just talk to him less and less and act busy when he contacts you. I don't feel too sorry for him because he is obviously posting photos that do not depict what he actually looks like. If he has been told he looks better in his photos, he needs to put up new ones that look like the real him so he won't run into this problem again.
Sorry to say, but of course looks do matter. There has to be some attraction or the relationship will never go past friendship.
Don't feel guilty--you can't help who you are attracted to. This happened to me on eharmony. The guy waited two months to send me his photo--when I got it I was shocked--he looked like Uncle Fester from the Addams Family. I politely told him that he really wasn't my type, that he looked too much like my ex (I doubt he bought it, but he was not honest when he withheld his photo for so long).
Another option--tell him you got back with an ex.

you did lead him on, although you really should have caught on when he said "his last girlfriend told him he looked better on myspace" that means he met his last girlfriend online as well. Little alarm bells should have went off telling you something was up, why can't he pick someone up at a party like everybody else? But this is in the past now, too late, you learned your lesson. The simple fact is, you probably can't let him down super easy, but you don't have to date him, you barely know the guy, and you can have him as just a friend right? you said he has a great personality, spend time with him, but just do friend things, either he will catch on, and just be your friend, or he has problems and letting him down soft should be your last concern.
This is an honest opinion, hope it helps you decide what you should do, but you should have known all along.

you do not, in trouble-free words a fool would attempt what you want too. He would not favor to be your pal, he needs more suitable. If he won't be able to have that, then there is not any reason to be your pal. truth is you're making a terrible pal for any guy, it truly is not any longer your fault it truly is only a truth of existence. in case you try to enable him down difficulty-free, you'll finally end up reaching no longer some thing. customary woman mistake, he will in trouble-free words imagine you're taking section in puzzling to get. tell him the puzzling and straightforward truth, or you chance hurting him even more suitable. Is that fairly what you want to do?

Just tell him while you all had wonderful conversations on the internet, things are just different in real life. Just say that he's not the type of guy you see dating but you would love to be friends with him and still get to know him. If he declines your offer, move on. Looks like he wasn't looking for friends anyway.

Tell him you two just didn't "click". Be polite, be friendly, and accept your shallowness for what it is. As you grow, you will understand looks do matter, just in different perceptions as you mature. You are not horrible, you are typical. And nothing is wrong with that. At least you are showing compassion in being concerned with his feelings.

Just tell him that you're too superficial for someone with flaws. That, and hope you don't ever have a disfiguring accident so the same can happen to you. ^_^
