My ex boyfriend is in the air force and we just recently broke up before he went back. He wants to be friends so we can get back to the way we were before we got together. He says that before we were together we were the best of friends. I told him Im going to only be his friend for so long. I really want to be with him but all the arguing when we are in a relationship is really getting tired. But he is right we are the best of friends when we dont argue. We can talk about anything. Its just I dont want us to grow away from each other during this friendship. I think its just the title of saying that im his girlfriend and he is my boyfriend is a level of commitment that we wont reach. As of now I dont know what to do.

Keep the lines of communication open. Many a long marriage have been based on friendship. Maybe in a few years you both will have grown and matured enough to make it work.

It may get complicated if you two just stay friends with maybe the possibility of getting back together dangling around in the air. It may cause you issues where you want more commitment. If you want to be friends with him, that's fine. And just because you don't argue doesn't mean that there aren't any issues there. You'd be better off not staying friends and maybe talk occasionally so that if something happens, great.. if not, then oh well.

I dont think you should be friends with him so soon. You should take a break from each other. You want to be together, and he doesnt. The only real reason you would agree to be his friend, is because your hoping you will get back together. If he doesnt want that it will just strain the friendship and you will get hurt.
Sounds to me like he wants his cake and to eat it too. Meaning he doesnt want to have the commitment of being together, but still wants to keep you around.

Some people are better friends than couples. Stay friends and if it is meant to be for you two to be together it will happen. If you two argue a lot while dating it is best that you are not "Together".

You will grow away from each other if you remain more than friends.

You can't go backwards. It's unfortunate but true. If it's meant to be it will be.
