I think what is weird is you had your cat cremated, and kept the ashes.

It is not weird to be deeply affected by the loss of a pet. I have lost quite a few pets in my time and deeply miss them all although over time that pain does get less and now one year and six months after losing my dog I feel ready to get a new dog, not a replacement. Not being able to sleep unless you have the ashes next to you is not so much weird than a concern. Why can you not sleep????? Are you tossing and turning thinking about your cat, do you feel any guilt or regrets about how or why your cat died or do you feel a void in your life with your cat gone???? Whatever the reasons for this i do not think it is healthy to sleep with the cats ashes, you have already became dependant on this and it will be difficult to stop. I know a lot of people do not see pets as anything more than animals and can not understand how some people get so attached. Perhaps this is the case for you and you have received little or no sympathy or understandings for your loss. No matter how stupid this sounds perhaps you need to talk to somebody to come to terms with your cats' death. Talking helps so much and if no-one around you is sensitive enough to listen and take what your going through seriously enough then you should ring some counselling organisation before this dangerous habit you have started gets out of hand. You sound like the slippery slope of deppression may have already started.

I don't think it is weird at all. My cat passed away and I had him cremated. I had him for 8 years, and he was the most loyal and loving animal I have ever had the fortune of knowing. He was regal. He never did anything bad or got into things. He was very mature, yet he loved to play. He was a wonderful companion. I was deeply grieved when he died. I felt like I had lost my best friend. So, I had him cremated. I figured that he was such a good friend, he had earned a place on my mantle. There is nothing wrong with that. Many, many, many people cremate their deceased pets and place them in urns or scatter their ashes. Don't feel bad. You are still grieving. Stay strong.

Yes. Death of a pet is hard to get over, but if you think of death as a beginning rather than an end I hope you will find the comfort you need to sleep on this one. Trust me, you don't want to sleep with her ashes, it is like saying you want to sleep next to a rock collection, not to disrespect your cat here. We need to respect the dead, not sleep with the dead. What is even more weird than that is to see the ghost of your cat or dog.

I can't relate to that because I know I will outlive my cat and don't get that attached but I still have always loved any cats I have ever owned. Mabe you should go buy a stuffed (cat) animal in memory of your deceased loved one and keep it on your bed in memory of your kitty. Also, if your lifestyle allows, get a new live kitty to keep you company and fill the void you are experiencing. It will help you get your mind of any loneliness while you can still remember the good times.
I have some kitties with wings, or "angel kitties" as I call them through out the comfort zones in my home to remind me of the cats I have lost in the past. These are reminders of them and our good times and I still have a couple of live little devils running around my house too!
I'm sorry about your loss and wish you well. Give it some time and you will do ok. Take care!

Everyone has a different way of grieving. You find it comforting to have your cat's ashes near you and that allows you to sleep. Maybe it's because when your cat was alive you found that it was comforting to have your cat next to you while you slept.

no, it's not weird.it's your way of grieving for the loss of you friend. when my mom's shih-tzu died, he was cremated. when we got his ashes back, i made a special urn for him in his memory.that was 8 years ago. his ashes still sit on mom's dresser. you'll be ok. give yourself time,it will take awhile. remember the good times you had with her. it's hard to loose a beloved pet, our cat is like my kid. if you don't mind , i'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers

no, i don't think that's wierd because, i assume, you loved your cat. when my rabbits died, we buried them in the backyard, and i visit them as i would if they were my grandparents or my parents.
