There is no way he can make him join the military, and age have nothing to do with it. first off your boyfriend has to sign all the paperwork to be enlisted. then he has to go through the MEPs center and get the physical, as well as fill out all the paperwork there himself. then he will be asked if he is being coerced, threatened or made any promises by anyone before they will even let him have his criminal records pulled up. finally he has to be sworn in before he is eligable to leave for basic trainig( or boot camp in the navy and marines). If his father thinks he can get around all of that then by all means have at it my friend. It took me hours to fill out all the paperwork just to get to the swearing in.

Simply No. By federal law (10 U.S.C., 510), the minimum age for enlistment in the United States Military is 17 (with parental consent) and the maximum age is 35.
Your BF must be doing something bad if his parents are threatening with this kind of thing. Tell him to straighten up and go to college to get a decent job.

No, it is not true. Your boyfriend would have to swear in at least once, more than likely twice, before he would even go to basic. Nobody can "make" anyone join the Military.

As a law student I can say with absolute certainty that the answer is NO! There is absolutely no way he could be forced to join by any citizen. Only the institution of a draft would "require" him to enlist. Rest easy, your boyfriend isn't going anywhere unless he chooses.

No-one can make any other person join against their will. This is why there is a psychological test involved, to make sure people who don't really want to join, don't end up doing something stupid which could, worst case scenario, get someone killed.

He's 18 and legally an adult. Unless he is still living under his father's roof then there really isn't anything that his dad can do to him. Not to mention the fact that the military is purely voluntary.

once you're 18 no one can legally make you do anything... besides the government...
I guess his dad could kick him out of the house if he didn't join... but then he could just live on his own... that wouldn't be making him join, just making him leave

Not true. Once he's 18 he has his own free will. Now, Good 'ol Dad can pressure the crap out of him, but he can't make him sign enlistment papers. Dad's on a power trip.

Hi Fussy, No this is not true. Tell your B.F. not to worry. His dad can't not tell him what to do. He's 18 and concerner an adult. So both of you have no worries about this anymore. A Friend.

No, his dad cannot make him. If he wants to get his dad off his back, he should go take the ASVAB test, and get all the answers wrong on purpose. They will get him out of there so fast, and never call him again.
