how to identify with someone who with post traumatic stress with black outs?

You can't identify with a person who has such a severe symptom of PTSD. The only thing you can do is be there for him/her. Let them know if they need anything from you that they can count on you and stand behind that promise. PTSD can come out in many ways..sometimes it can be scary but hang in there and good luck.

The episodes are triggered by stress, even very small amounts that would go un-noticed to healthy people. Must stay out of stressful situations due to fight or flight response that could kick in and get a person killed. A blackout could occur if fight or flight is not an option at the time of stress.

not sure about the blackouts , but just be a good friend & try to lessen the stress levels around them without taking over completey unless you're asked to - we still need our level of independence to 'grow ' out of this problem & we need good friends we can rely on just to be friends & to be there , because since our breakdown or whatever the cause we tend to want to isolate ourselves from the community , so just call & say hi , i'm thinking of you , or drop in for a cuppa or offer to take us out to shoot some pool / go bowling or whatever it is good friends do (we need to feel valued like anyone else , warts , ptsd & all )

This is called pseudo-seizures
