Believe it or not ALL 3 of the breeds is a dominate breed. You need to make sure this pup knows it's place. Humans are the ALPHA, dogs are OMEGA! Period. He bites, push his muzzle down and say NO! Giving off a load yelp will also deter them. Go to puppy and training classes with a good trainer, not one of those PetSmart or Petco trainers. A REAL TRAINER! Most trainers will let you sit in on a class before you sign up. Check out a few till you find a good one. The pet stores might be cheaper, but in the long run are a waste of money if you want a well trained dog that you can really live with.

Several decent answers here -- ignore the ones that suggest you are being attacked. This is how a puppy plays with other pups, which is about all he knows at that age. Spraying him, tapping him, sharply scolding him will all eventually give him the idea. Growling alone won't do much unless you speak fluent dog, pups growl at each other as they play fight, so not much to be gained there.

If it really is a datsun, I'd remove the grill so it can't bite and then drain the gas so it wouldn't even try.

Good luck.

Do you mean dachshund? A datsun is a car.

Puppies do that, they are constantly trying to play and since they can't play like we do, they play with their mouths. What I have done for my puppies is gently hold the mouth closed and give a firm no bite command. It did wonders.

I've given a light tap on the nose with the command "no-bite" and it worked within a reasonable amount of time. Not a hard enough tap to really hurt. I like the spray bottle idea but you can't always have one handy and what happens if water gets down the nostrils? Just wondering.

It sounds like she is showing you that she does not want to be picked up. Some puppies don't like the feeling of confinement when they are being held. If she is only doing this when you are picking her up, make sure to only to do this when its necessary to move her. If her nipping continues, I would look into puppy training classes. They have them at your main pet stores such as Petco and Petworks.

Tell her no in a firm voice and put her back down and ignore her for a few minutes then pick her up again and try it again be firm with her so she knows that this behavior is not acceptable and she has to stop and if she doesn't then no attention until behavior improves.

Keep her away from your face ;-). Puppy's have sharp little teeth and still havent figured out what type of play is appropriate so putting them near your face is a bad idea.

Try putting your finger in her mouth and gently pressing down on the part of her mouth under her tongue. If you squeeze her muzzle, she will percieve this as a dominant action.
