My son has his first wiggly tooth. When it finally comes out, how much money should we be prepared to slip under his pillow?

This is insane. People are actually paying out twenties. The tooth fairy is beautiful way to allow your child to believe in something special. A dollar or two is great. The tooth fairy is not about how much money you are giving to most children. The tooth fairy is magical and very very special to a little one. Enjoy the experience with your child. Find out what he believes about the silly fairy. The ideas about special coins and the toothbrush were cool. You know your son make it special, but keep it simple. Ignore the going rate and make it special.

I always gave $1. It's not like the kids have done anything special or 'need' to buy essentials themselves...

I was bad about forgetting, and one morning when I woke up there was this sticky note on the front of my blanket, and on it my 6 yo had drawn a pic of a girl crying and the voice bubble said, "The tooth fairy forgot AGAIN."

After that I made sure to remember. Usually I'd do it when I went in to kiss them goodnight, and they could NEVER figure out how that dollar got under their pillows cuz they never felt it.

Mom is so sneaky...

I can't tell you the going rate right now, but when I was little I got a quarter for each tooth. Of course, this was almost 20 years ago. I though my parents were cheap then, but I imagine kids these days get waaaay too much! a quarter was still enough for me to get excited over back then. i now have 1 child of my own, and another on the way, and i can't imagine I will give more than a dollar for each tooth. maybe $5 for eachof the front teeth.

we have not gotten to that point yet however it will be soon but my hubby and I thought we would get her silver dollars and give her one for each tooth plus a note telling her how well she is taking care of her teeth and thanking her for doing a great job even though she forgets every now and then signed by the tooth fairy but I like the new tooth brush and maybe a new toothpaste idea...

The going rate for the US is $5.00 per tooth, plus $2.00 for any additional teeth there after in an 8 hr period. Allow .50 for shipping and handling. The Tooth Fairy Adminstration (T.F.A.)suggests depositing any monetary payments into a savings account for future use.

My son who is now 20, got a nice crisp $2 bill for the 1st tooth and then $1 coins for the subsequent teeth, his classmates - got any where from a $1 to $20 for their teeth. I could not afford that.

He was happier with the $2 bill and the $1 coins that no one else had. This was definitely a cool factor for him.

i would say give him a dollar. And then raise it 50 cent for every tooth after that.
1 tooth- a dollar
2nd tooth- 1.50
3rd tooth- 2.00
4th tooth- 2.50 ect.....

it makes children feel there teeth are important if you raise it each time. And it gives them encouragement to keep doing a good job at brushing them!
