Hi. I'm a sixteen year old girl with very nice brunette hair, but unfortunately it gets oily easily. In contrast, my scalp is always dry. Is there any solution? I have fine, straight hair, and it goes to about my shoulders. Thanks!

Make sure you use a shampoo designed for your hair type and conditioner too. Try to use salon quality if you can, its got gentler ingredients in them, you really need to have good shampoo if your hair is so fine.

After you wash and conditon your hair, make sure you rinse it really, really good. I read that a lot of dry scalp is due to not rinsing the conditioner out.

natalie, sometimes the scalp problem you have is due to hormones. so it will change again. for now take a look at how you care for your hair and scalp which is equally important. if you can swing a professional shampoo and conditioner from a salon, go for a free consultation. most stylists will talk for free about products. if you're using something otc like pantene you may be clogging the scalp pores causing both oil and dryness. if there is a local beauty college try them for lower prices on services and products. get a scalp massage and it will do wonders. if none of this is available to you. brush your scalp 100 times with a stiff bristle brush, shampoo with head and shoulders to remove oil, then put mayonnaise on your hair and scalp for 15 mins then shampoo out. it softens and hydrates naturally.after shampooing out the mayo use vinegar to creat shine and balance the acid mantle of your scalp.

As far as the dry scalp, I would get a normal, not moisturizing, but not dry, shampoo and conditioner combo. And as far as the oily hair. Try not to touch it so much. Mine is the same way! Hope this helps.

DO NOT brush 100 strokes!! Bad, bad! Try not to wash everyday, but buy a hair powder for your roots (they even make them in blonde, red and brown shades!!) If you prefer to shampoo often, use a light daily shampoo!

Aussie makes a great shampoo and conditioner for hair that is both. Give that a try.
