Wow. that's a hard one. I used to bite my nails 24/7. What i did was paint my nails, done BEAUTIFULLY, so I didn't was to ruin them, and plus, the nail polish tastes HORRIBLE! I also ate lollipops.

If you REALLY REALLY REALLY can't stop biting them, wear gloves. LOL

Try Bitter Apple, it's a dog training thing, but it might hurt if you have broken skin. I had a friend who put tobasco on her nails. I don't remember if that worked tho...

Try switching the nail biting to another behavior that is positive. Like when you get the urge to bite your nails, pull out a bottle of nail salve and a file and give yourself a manicure instead. The new behavior doesn't have to be related to your nails, but it helps to substitute a postive behavior rather than just quit the negative behavior. It will take 8-12 weeks of discipline to stop having the urge, but you'll get there.

I stopped biting my nails when my dad asked me to stop doing it for him, then he died. So I stopped for him. I used to bite my nails down til they bled and I remember how it hurt and how it looked really bad.

Hmm, you can try what other people say, and you can also try what I say- try using a wrist exercise ball, and resist the urge to bite your nails. I hear wrist exercise balls can relieve stress, which may be a reason why you bite your nails. I don't know, I'm not a doctor, just a person with some knowledge that may be of help to you.

They sell stuff in stores to keep babies from sucking their thumbs, you can try that. Beyond that, just resist the urge to bring your fingers to your mouth, or face if you can help it. I used to be an nail bitter, and using nail polish never stopped me. I just decided I'd rather have pretty long nails. Also give yourself a goal, like if I stop bitting my nails I will treat myself to a manicure. That should help keep you motivated.

Put nailpolish on it tastes nasty when you bite it off! Or get some special polish to help stop biting nails. Check the link I sent you. Good Luck.

Here's what has worked for me. I had to get a lower denture. I got the denture, because my teeth were so bad... but my fingernails benefited! It feels weird and there are still some things I just cannot chew, even with the denture in. Bada BING! No more nail biting! I have to trim them with nail clippers! Oh well.

I use to have this problem and it was stress related. When I moved away from home and my mother I was finally able to stop. I'm not bashing my mum, we both simply did not realize the stress she caused me at the time. I had to become very conscious of what I was doing and everytime I had the urge I really had to think about just saying no. It didn't happen over night but it happened and that's what matters. I think it is like smoking or over eating, first you acknowledge the problem you have and then you learn to tell yourself no.
