I don't because I love it. They did this to their mommy cat when they nursed and it is a way they comfort themselves. It is sweet.

You really can't--kittens do this while nursing and I think cats derive comfort from this activity. If the claws bother you you can keep them clipped short or get some soft paws claw covers. If it's bothering you because the cat is doing it on a piece of furniture or on you, you could gently move the cat elsewhere. But if you scold or punish the cat for doing something that comes naturally to it or provides comfort to it, you will have an unhappy cat who might act out in other ways.
Good luck!

If you're considering clipping your cats claws bear in mind they can't protect themselves in a cat fight and if you declaw them it harms them psychologically. I'm from New Zealand & no one declaws their cats here, it's considered animal abuse by most people. I'm disgusted that people in the USA & Canada declaw cats & keep them indoors in apartments, I don't think those people should have a cat if that's their living environment, it's not natural for them. Just mentioning this in case it's something you were considering doing if you find the kneading annoying.

You can't-it's an instinct. But you can trim its nails to make it more comfortable for the human being kneaded. Squeeze the toe gently to make the claw come out, then clip it below where it gets wide with toenail trimmers. Cats typically have clear claws, so you can see the "quick"-this is the pink flesh inside the nail. You don't want to cut the quick.

You really can't. Cats Knead because from the time they are born, they knead their mothers milk glands to help the milk flow. They associate this with comfort. To try to stop them is almost impossiable.

As kittens cat will knead their mothers tummy to try and encourage her to feed them - in adulthood, this is just an instinct they haven't lost. You can't stop them from doing it, nor do I see why you'd want to.

You don't, because they not only find it comforting but also, a reminder of when they were little, and needed to get milk out, of their mom's teats
Late in 2006, one of my sister's kitties, Samantha ("Sam", is what we call her!) was kneeding on a blanket and she asked me why, they do that. I told her the above and was really proud, I knew what the answer was, to her question

Short of killing the cat, you cannot change the nature of a cat. Learn to like it or stop having cats. That is really your only choices.

you cant it's called force of nature. Its like making sure the blankets are right before you put your head down for the night. They are just making their own little beds.
