basically australia is very big. Sydney is more like cosmopolitan city but there are lots of nice beaches and national parks. Melbourne is more like Europe. a lot of beautiful building. Tasmania gives you another perspective of Australia. Queensland has a lot of beautiful and nice island. Any of them will be gr8 for holiday.

I've travelled around Australia twice and lived in every state and territory and my all time favourite place is Broome in Western Australia. It's quite a hike up there but well worth it. Can be expensive though. Sunset over the Indian Ocean with yummy cocktails is a must on Cable Beach. All the cities are lovely, but Darwin and Melbourne are must see's. Melbourne has very good shopping and is less expensive than Sydney. Darwin is a very relaxed city and only about 2 hours drive from the lovely Kakadu National Park, best to go there towards to Dry season ( april-oct). Where ever you go you'll have a ball, we live in a very pretty country.

Here are a few good site that will give you some idea of what is on offer.

I would recommend that you make sure you visit Sydney and the Great Barrier Reef. Phillip Island for the Penguin parade http://www.penguins.org.au/ and while you are down that way Melbourne. So much to see, so much to do choosing will alway be difficult.
Travel in February and March will be cheaper than January. Depending on where you go you will find the weather can be quite different. Some areas in the north of Australia in the summer months have their monsoon season. Hot and wet.
What ever you decide I am sure you will enjoy

A beautiful country, great beaches, and beautiful landmarks depending on where you go. NSW has a fantastic coastline and is cooler than QLD. I live in QLD and it is nice here too but hotter. The capital cities are the biggest places and have alot to offer in the way of famous landmarks (sydney opera house) etc and shopping. I really like the smaller places like Bermagui in NSW which is along the coast and Batemans Bay! They are worth seeing!! I have heard WA is nice too around Perth.

Just remember Sydney is the most exspensive city in Australia, It's nice, great night life, heaps to see and do. But if you visit Aus make sure you go up to QLD and drive up if you can because the drive is great, there's heaps to see and do on the way!
