In a word Willpower!
If you continue to smoke you are going to considerably affect your health and you will probably will die young!
Your lungs are already affected by the Nicotine and all the other crap you have inhaled, and it will take some time(years in fact) for your lungs to recuperate, even if you stop now!
It's not "Cool" to smoke, It's Cool" not to smoke, and what man wants to kiss a girl, that stinks of stale fags, and has the breath of stale ash trays?
Once the new No Smokig Ban comes into effect it will be easier on you!
Quit immediately, refuse any cigarettes offered, don't cut down, STOP! BE BRAVE GO "COLD TURKEY"!
The first year is going to be the hardest, I did it by just stopping, no patches etc, you just have to be really determined to stop!

My father-in-law, who smoked through out WW2 stopped, and he rolled his own cigarettes, and got through a tin a day, with No Filters, he stooped after going into hospital with Chronic Emphysema.
If you ever went into the hospital wards and saw all the patients with Lung Cancer, Heart disease, and all the other serious breathing problems, it would really shock and wake you up, and if my father-in law can quit, you can!

I quit over the years several times. it wasn,t hard I just had a polo mint every time I felt the urge for a cig this way I felt I was in charge of my habit, ( no patches in those days)
I had a sore throat once and went to the Dr , he sent me to a specialist ,and I was admitted into a Cancer ward,
Seeing the other patients there being fed thru tubes , with there voice boxes removed , convinced me never to smoke again.
fortunately My throat was cured . that was 20 years ago.
one thing to remember is once you have stopped ,, Never go near them again, remember this after
You are always nearer to your next cigarette than you were your last
good luck there is alot of hype about how hard it is to quit I think this is untrue I found it easy after 3 days ,,
If you can get over the first couple of days,, your a winner keep out of smokey places and away from peeps that smoke during this time, lve Alan

Go to doctors and get on the NHS stop smoking course, its the price of a prescription for 12 weeks supply of any nicotine replacement stuff for the full 12 weeks, patches, gum, lozenges, inhalators & cartridges for it, plus weekly support from a NHS quit smoking person who have been where you are now. Very good service highly recommended! You can go to the NHS direct instead of doctors, there's a number you can ring, ask through docs or 118118

i smoked for almost 30yrs went through a phase of really wanting to stop so went to docs n got nicorette nasal spray.. It really helped as when you crave nicotine you have a spray up your nose and within a few mins the craving has gone, that was 2yrs ago now and i have never had another ciggy...if you really want to stop you will,,,Willpower is the main thing.... good luck my friend

get the patch or read up on COPD ...its what my dad has and he has been in the hospital twice since Sept due to smoking which he has since quit. Seeing him and my family in pain was enough to make me NEVER want another cigarette in my LIFE. Quit now before its too late.
...also get the gum.

This sounds harsh....but, I would go to a hospital or nursing home where someone is dying of lung cancer and see the horror it creates in everyone that it effects. I've been there (twice) both an aunt and uncle died from lung cancer, and it's a horrible death. Good luck!
