There is no cure for the common cold but zinc throat lozenges can help shorten the duration. It is horrible being a sick Mom, to much guilt. If the baby doesn't get a cold here and there to build up immunity now she will be sick all the time when she starts school.

I have only had 1 cold in 9 years and that was a year ago.

A combination of echinacea tea, vitamin C, and vitamin E will prevent a cold. Your toddler may not drink it, being herbal and unusual, so sweeten it. Honey is preferable, but I know honey is toxic to little ones, I just don't know up to what age and she is young. So use a little sugar if she won't drink it plain. Vitamin C 2000mg and E 1000 IU boost your immune system. As a child and an adult I know that (1000mg. is a minimum) 2000mg. or more is preferable if you are already sick. She is very young I would give her the lowest mg. I could find 50mg.(min).-250 mg(max per day). and crush it up in her food. Drink echinacea until you are healthy again. Don't take echinacea every day. It will damage your immune system, after 6-8 wks. says so on the bottle and more. However green tea is an immune system builder that you can drink as much as you want. I also won't eat meat if I'm sick, just because of the bacteria.Pl.S. Keep your hands clean, wash. If you blow your nose, got even saliva on your hands, wash them before touching anything.

Your cold should last much less than 7 days. I would give it 3 days. Your toddlers may be thwarted altogether.

That's funny, I was wondering the same thing this past weekend! I know so many people must deal with that, and some have to deal with far worse things than just a bad cold, but it is hard. I too spent one whole day doing nothing but laying on the couch, getting up only to feed or change my toddler. I felt bad, but she just played nicely all day.
The one thing that always made me feel better was taking Theraflu caplets. They are for basically all the symptoms, ranging from a stuffy nose to having chills and a fever. I didn't take any now, cuz I wasn't that sick, but I have before and they are my lifesaver.

Awww it's sweet that you think so much of your little on. As far as I know there is still no cure for the common cold. I say wash your hands alot, spray lysol, and hope your baby has a good immune system. To make your self feel better, take a hot bath. Drink some hot tea. The sleeping will probably help you get over the cold more quickly. Good luck!

God had a good reason for making we women Moms. We have a feeling of love for our kids that is indescribable. Moms do not get sick days. I remember having the flu, resting my head in my arms at the kitchen table -- which was close to the bathroom -- while my two toddlers played. We could not afford having Dad stay home from work.

Get some kleenex, hot tea, chicken soup, an aspirin or two, and deal with it. You'll be much better next week.

From one mum to another....you can't do much about the common cold....you just have to weather it out and cope with your little girl as best you can. She may get it too, but it won't last forever and illnesses are part of life I'm afraid. Cold and flu tablets really knock the edge of the symptoms for me though. I think they are a good investment.
Oh and one more thing... I'm a 45 year old mum of two fantastic sons 21 & 19......and I must say...you sound like a wonderful mother to me....and a caring, loving mother beats an old cold any old day.
Bless your heart:)

Do you have any neighborhood friends or close family near by. Call them to help. Take the child to a near by day care or babysitter for a few hours so you can get some rest. As far as the cold it will have to run its' course and as for the child give her plenty of vitamin C and other vitamins and hope for the best. Good Luck and a fast recovery. God Bless.

Give her lots of orange juice and there is a medicine out there that helps prevent colds and flu. I don't know the name but I have seen and heard about it. Give her a vitamins and plenty of fluids. If you can try to get someone to watch her while you dope yourself and try to rest. That is all I can really tell you. I have been there with me, my husband, and our 1yr old sick at the same time,it is not fun.
