How is he making this world better?

He pretty much stays out of everything and lets us go on with our lives, so what is he actually doing for anyone?

Just because he didn't answer the way you wanted him 2, doesn't mean he didn't answer, is the main response... your joking right!?

So basically "god" does nothing (because he isn't real) but somehow you imagine that he really has done something when he hasn't!?

I have always personally had a hard time with this. When I was a little girl I prayed everyday. I never got any answers. Nobody came & pulled me away from the abuse I was in or the suffering I had to endure. As an adult I just forgot God for a long time. Then, I broke down & joined a church for a couple of years & I tried & read the bible, done the studies, behaved myself living free of sin or as best as I could, & I prayed once again on a daily basis. I never received any answers then, either. My husband's hand was cut off in a freak accident at work when we were both 18. Our home burned & we lost everything in 1998. My daughter was raped at the age of 12 in 2003. Why do people say they heard from God or that he talks to them? Doesn't that make them crazy in a way? He has never said a word to me. I'm not trying to offend anyone. I'm just trying to understand. I think your own brain helps to make decisions & guides you thru life. I think that making the world a better place has been left up to us. So, I have to agree with you here...what is he actually doing for anyone? I know I sound like an Athiest or something but I'm actually a Spiritual person. I just have a lot of questions that I want answered that never will be. I'll have to keep a watch on this question to see if maybe someone can rationally clear this up~

It is not that God does not answer ‘everyone’s’ prayers, God does not answer ‘anyone’s’ prayers.

There is not a Holy Man/Woman on earth that get a reality-based response from their, or any, God.

And, they cannot use the ‘free will’ or ‘God does not do that’ explanation because, for example, according to Christian belief, their God was a hell-of-a miracle-making machine 2000+ years ago. So what happened? Is he lazy, sick, dead? Maybe he is just embarrassed that Penn & Teller are so much better at all that illusion stuff.

Many people are under the misconception that God does NOT answer prayers...we just don't listen close enough! It might not be the answer you want, but HE does answer! God knows better than any human what is best for us...so if you pray for a lifetime of happiness with your current special someone, and you don't get it...it's because he/she is not the one for you. Just an example there...there are many more serious prayers that get answered in the same fashion...I'll quote Garth Brooks here..."I thank God for unanswered prayers".

Answering prayers isn't always about dropping what we want at our door steps. God or Divinity ALWAYS answers prayers, We may not always get what we want but we ALWAYS get what we need.

People who pray for strength for example cannot expect God to shoot some mystical laser beam from heaven and imbue them with Herculean strength, but instead, they will be sent trials and problems to solve, to withstand and to transcend. After "overcoming" such problems the person inevitably becomes stronger, wiser and more resilient. The same can be said for every other prayer humanity makes...

God is not a fairy god mother waving a tinkerbell wand chanting Bibbidy-Bobbity-Boo!

it is not up to God to make this world a better place that is for the people He put here, but we are not to focus on the things of this world but to prepare for the eternal life He offersHe does a lot and He provides to those that truly believe in Him and Jesus and follow the path We have free will and God stays out of itHe is like any father He does not give us all we ask for but what He sees fit that we need

The problem starts with assigning human characteristics to "god." God set the wheels in motion about 14.5 billion years ago. Maybe he flew away to start some other universe, who knows? Just because some philosopher with vision by the name of Jesus has been carried away on the shoulders of mob logic, doesn't mean there was a "son" of "god." I am sure many people disagree with that, and they are welcome to their opinion. I merely ask the same in return. To answer your question, only a personal god can do thigs "for" anyone. Next thing you know you'll be wanting Him to fix next Sunday's football game.

"god" is doing absolutely nothing -- there's no evidence of any kind to show that "he" exists!

You know, there have been exactly 2 "scientific" studies on the effectiveness of prayer. The first one had people in one country pray for people in another country who were undergoing surgery. A control group undergoing surgery had nobody pray for them. That study showed that the people that were prayed for had a 30% better chance of surviving the surgery -- which was loudly touted by the religious folks as "scientific proof" of the power of prayer! Then -- oops -- it was discovered that the leader of the study (a christian) had faked the data (which he subsequently admitted)...turns out there was NO improvement over the control group for the prayed-for people. He just wanted so badly for there to be proof, that he faked it.

The second study was similar -- and showed no benefits of any kind from the prayers.

It's a safe bet there won't be any more such studies, as everyone in science already knows -- prayer is just you muttering to yourself, nothing more. Amen. :)

Well you're assuming that he exists and is a personal God, if you want to be a christian you'd best ask your priest about theological questions, if you ask me i'll make you an atheist. Check out the book i cited, it has a lot of great arguements for or against an omnibenevolent, omnipotent Diety

He saved my grandpa's life. He was in a head on crash that ended up in an explosion, and "it just happened to be" that there was 4 amazingly brave people to pull my grandpa out of the car and save his life. He has also guided our family through countless situations that we would have never got through is it weren't for him. God bring miracles and it's a fact.
