I have a huskey who is 12 and she's always been mean. She attacks my other dog, and the cats, and there's no way to stop her. I know I just can't get rid of her, because I fear another owner will abuse her because she is so aggressive. But she hurt my cat very bad. So now I'm lost w/ what to do. Training and seperation from the rest of the pets doesn't work. I'm not sure what to do

There's a theory that dogs can become aggressive because they're unsure about their status in the house - they may think they have more power/responsibility than they actually do, which makes them unhappy. they try to control the other animals by biting them. If you're serious about controlling your dog i think a dog trainer is your best bet, if you haven't tried one already. You could also try Jan Fennel's book 'the dog whisperer', she has dealt with a lot of aggressive dogs.

You may have to put her to sleep if the vet or dog behavior specialists cannot help with her disposition. It will be a hard decision but you have to decide what's the best and safest decision for everyone involved. It appears the consequences and past complications and stresses you have endured so far are not worth trying to hang on to her. We know you love your dog, you've done all you can do and more than most owners would have up to now. Take care of YOU. Good Luck. You could be taking more risks finding new owners and it wouldn't be fair to the new owners or your dog.

I had a similar situation where 2 of my German Shepherds decieded to double team a female German Shepherd that I also had at the same time. The male dog (Chopper) was one that I had when he was a puppy ( I breed his mother and father). I was giving the dog a temporary home. I called up the gal that had owned him and told her she had 48 hours to pick up the dog or else!!!! She eventually had him picked up.
The female dog (Aubri) was just getting more aggressive toward the other younger female (Nami). I had to make a very painful decision to put her at the pound in hopes that they could find her a good home. She got spayed and I even printed up a sign that told all about her.
As it ended up, Aubri had to be put down. I know from experience that this is a very painful decision to make. BUT, YOU MUST THINK OF THE SAFETY OF ALL THE OTHER ANIMALS. ALSO, CAN YOU CONTINUE TO AFFORD ANY VET BILLS THAT SHE MIGHT INCUR AS A RESULT OF HER AGGRESSIVNESS????
I would look at it this way too, she (your dog) has been lucky to have you as an owner for these past 12 years. If nothing else, if you do decide to have her put to sleep, she will have been very loved for those past 12 years. Also you have tried to do things to keep the other animals safe.
Keep your chin up and good luck. You will know in your heart whether you must put her down or just permanenly keep her seperated from all the other animals.

First of all take her to the vet to make sure there is nothing wrong with her...secondly whilst there ask vet about possibly changing her diet this can help sometimes.... the probs you have are not uncommon with huskies (they are not as domesticated as other breeds),if all else fails contact huskey rescue, they will do what is best for her..... an aggressive dog is a dangerous dog especially if it has contact with children, plz bare that in mind if you have children...

Couple things you can do. Try a coming to Jesus meeting (I don't like the name, that's just what it is called by vets). Grab the dog on the snout and sit it down, hold mouth closed and make it look into your eyes, use a firm voice and just talk...tell it to mind, just talk firm (no high pitch girl voice), when it gazes into your eyes without flinching, then stick one finger in it's mouth, pushing it's lip between it's tooth and your finger, and continue the meeting (the purpose is so if the dog bites down, it bites it's own lip and will stop). This helps establish dominance as dogs will not look a non-dominant in the face... You can also try taking your hand and shape it into a "c" and bite it on the neck until it becomes submissive (sometimes you have to pinch hard), it will fall to the ground and roll over when it submisses. Very good way of disciplining (unless the dog learns to run away from your hand)! Eventually it should become submissive enough that it should calm down, and treat you as the pack leader and knowck the aggression off! Worth a try, works for us!

I know this sounds sort of mean... but so is the dog. Maybe you could get the dogs teeth removed or dulled so that it would not be much of a danger? Then feed it canned or soft food. It would be very hard to find a home for a 12 yo agressive dog, so this might be the kindest thing to do for her. I'm afraid there isn't any great solution.

i agree with you , you should try putting her in a pen but make sure she has plenty of room and dont forget to spend time with her too so she knows shes still loved after a while you might be able to let her start spending time with the other dog if she gets tired of going in the pen for bad behavior she might stop attacking the other animals good luck

Take a dog trainer in, thats your only answer. They are trained to be able to deal with dogs that have behaviour problems. And you are right in thinking if you give her away someone might take advtanage of her aggresive nature.
Good luck.

Have you taken her to the vet for this? She may need to be put on an antidepressant to help with her moods. I know the other alternative people have done is to have them put to sleep. I would try the medicine option though. Good Luck

If worse comes to worse and you absolutelly cannot keep her, find a husky rescue and they will take her and try to rehabilitate her and find her a great home. That is what I had to do w/ my pitbulls they just got to where we couldn't have them and the rescue came and got them and now they are in good homes.
